Your Specific Responsibilities:

This part-time position is located at the Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County (DOH-Charlotte). The incumbent is responsible for providing preventive, restorative, prosthetic and minor surgical dental services for eligible patients in accordance with all Federal and State laws and within the guidelines established by the State Health and Dental Administrative office.This position reports to the County Health Department Administrator.

Dental Services

  • Dental and medical evaluations
  • Diagnosis and treatment planning – including all necessary procedures required to make proper diagnosis
  • Restorative procedures (per program limitations)
  • Oral surgery procedures (extractions)
  • Preventive services, dental and medical
  • Prosthetic services, when indicated (per program limitations)
  • All other dental services permitted by Medicaid
  • Other medical and dental referrals as authorized by dental program policy
  • Maintain detailed, accurate and comprehensive client records according to State guidelines
  • Refer clients for medical or specialized dental treatment and/or diagnoses
  • Proficiently operate various types of dental instruments and equipment using proper technique according to established dental practice, OSHA standards and DOH-Charlotte guidelines

Administrative Duties

  • Involves him/herself in related community programs, representing the DOH-Charlotte in a positive manner
  • Assists and develops training for paraprofessional dental staff in dental procedures according to protocols
  • Attends and participates in staff development such as staff meetings and in-service education
  • May perform chart peer reviews and support paraprofessionals operating under provider license per protocols
  • Support a learning environment and may serve as preceptor to students

 

Clinical Operations

  • Scheduling of patients
  • Ensuring sufficient patient load to meet productivity standards
  • Maintaining adequate supplies and equipment, including schedules for maintenance
  • Maintaining and periodically checking emergency equipment and supplies
  • Performs other related work as required, including dental surveys, screenings, presentations, staff meetings and quality improvement meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Licensure as a Dentist in the State of Florida in accordance with Florida Statute 466 is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • This position requires daily in-office or field work.
