Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid FL driver’s license or FL State Id  (if out of state you must obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics
  •  Experience working in the WIC Program
  • Nutrition or nutrition student internship experience
  • Computer skills and writing/speaking skills
  • Nutrition counseling skills and ability

     

     

    Work in the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Program providing nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education to pregnant, breastfeeding, post-partum women, infants and children under age 5 years. Professional Nutrition Educator assessing and evaluating nutritional status, writing nutrition care plans, providing nutrition counseling and education; certifying clients for the WIC program, developing nutrition education materials and/or classes and offering breastfeeding support to clients. Computer skills, productivity in clinic flow, provision of excellent customer service, team player and positive interpersonal relationships.

    Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

     

  • Provides excellent customer service to clients displaying courtesy and respect while expediting their visit to reduce wait time.
  • Certify clients for participation in the WIC program in accordance with policies of the state WIC program and regulations stated in DHM 150-24.  Provides nutrition education in a group or individual counseling in the areas of infant, childhood, prenatal, and post-natal including breastfeeding, nutrition and physical activity to promote development and maintenance of good nutrition and lifestyle habits.  Develop, monitor, evaluate, and revise nutrition education plans for individual low risk and high risk WIC program clients not at medical nutritional risk.  Refer medical nutrition high risk clients to the appropriate Licensed Dietitian for counseling. Documents in FL-Wise electronic client records by end of business day.  In rare emergencies, a late entry note must follow local and state protocol. Documents in FL- Wise data system; monitor accuracy of growth grids; distribute special formula to clients based on a valid medical condition and prescribed by a Physician/ARNP/Physician Assistant prescription.  Follow policies and procedures for collection, entry, and management of data.
  • Performs duties utilizing a teamwork approach to assure program objectives are coordinated with other staff to achieve desired results.  Cultivates positive work relationships with co-workers and communicates key information to supervisor and co-workers for efficient operations.
  • Maintains client confidentiality and security in accordance DOHP50-10-10 Information Security & Privacy Policy Confidential Information.
  • Assist in other areas of the office to assure client services are provided efficiently.  Select, develop, and evaluate client educational material.   Participates in the development, planning and carrying out of objectives/activities in the Bi-ennial Nutrition Program Plan.  Coordinate nutrition education services for assigned clients and makes referrals for appropriate services.  May assist with oversight of WIC office supervision as needed.
  • Participates in health fairs and WIC outreach activities.  Completes nutrition in-services for staff and the community.  Accurately completes all forms such as EARs in HMS, People First leave and attendance records, mileage, etc., by the required deadlines.  Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training, and other professional and staff developmental activities.
