Your Specific Responsibilities:
THIS POSITION IS PRIMARILY FOR COMPLETING ANTHROPOMETRIC MEASURES OF WOMEN, INFANTS AND CHILDREN AND PERFORMING THE HEMOGLOBIN TEST AS NECESSARY FOR WIC ELIGIBILITY DETERMINATION.
Provides excellent customer service to clients displaying courtesy and respect while expediting their visit to reduce wait time.
Measures the height/stature and weight of women, infants, and children using approved Center for Disease Control equipment and methods as per state WIC office procedures. Obtains a blood sample to measure hemoglobin values using sanitary procedures. Completes the Hemoglobin screening test utilizing Standard Precautions and following all OSHA guidelines. Calibrates the Hemoglobin measurement machine. Collects lab data results and enters in FL-Wise and on HGB log. Completes the measurement of height and weight for clients per CDC approved guidelines. If medical data is available from another entity and it is within sixty days of certification and eligible to be used, the measurements/test will not be repeated. Reviews immunization records and checks Florida Shots to review records. Enters appropriate data on FL-Wise screens and codes services. If needed, submits request for records to other providers if it is not available on the day of service.
Performs duties utilizing a teamwork approach to assure program objectives are coordinated with other staff to achieve desired results.
Cultivates positive work relationships with co-workers and communicates key information to supervisor and co-workers for efficient operations.
Maintains client confidentiality and security in accordance with DOHP50-10-10 Information Security & Privacy Policy Confidential Information.
Employee arrives to work on time and is ready for client services at the start of the business day.
Telephones clients regarding appointments to reschedule no-shows or work reports as assigned. Retrieves voicemail and returns calls. Cleans laboratory equipment daily.
Calibrates the hemoglobin machine daily. Assists with inventory of lab supplies and requests for orders in a timely fashion. Dispose of blood contaminated items in special safety disposal containers. Assures Biohazard collection is requested as needed. Notifies supervisor if equipment malfunctions so repairs or replacement of equipment may be done.
Assists in other areas of the office as needed. Participates in customer service, voter registration, confidentiality, OSHA, civil rights, anthropometrics, hematology, and all other required trainings.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of blood handling and screening blood tests. Customer service skills, telephone handling skills.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Telephone handling skills and abilities; making appointments;
- Computer experience, completing reports
- Excellent customer service and positive interpersonal relationships.
- Experience with blood test screenings.
- Excellent customer service experience.
- Work experience in a medical or state office with procedures and regulations.
- Required to report for disaster preparedness shelter duty as determined by the Florida Department of Health in St Lucie County.
Preferred:
- Spanish or Haitian Creole bilingual preferred.
- Direct patient care experience preferred.
