Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a professional level position that serves as a public information specialist for DOH-St. Lucie and DOH-Okeechobee counties, under the direction of the public information officer. The incumbent is responsible for generating compelling stories and graphics to promote the value of public health and local services that can be used in various public relations, marketing, and collateral materials. The incumbent is expected to adhere to all security, integrity and confidentiality regulation, policies, and procedures related to information under the direct control of this position.

 

Assists employees and managers on communication tasks and use of written and verbal skills to create a wide range of products and communication materials. Writes, edits and/or produces products to include talking points, presentations, news releases, FAQ's, flyers, and communication toolkits to promote DOH-St. Lucie.

 

Responsible for overseeing DOH-St. Lucie social media platforms and agency digital advertising in lobby and employee breakroom areas. Develops content and graphics. Utilizes Hootsuite to schedule and post content. Monitors social media accounts and other sources for breaking news, events and information pertaining to public health. Utilizes TruDigital platform to schedule and post employee and customer information in lobbies and breakrooms.

 

Assist with graphic design of marketing materials, including handouts, flyers, and digital advertising. Responsible for coordinating the translation of outreach materials to the languages of Spanish and Haitian Creole. Adheres to Florida Department of Health branding standards and guidelines.

Responsible for completing assigned communication requests through agency ticket system. Oversees project requests from initiation through completion, following local and state guidelines for routing and approval. Provides regular communication on project status with other communication and agency staff. 

 

Collaborates with other communication staff to coordinate production of materials in a timely manner. Produces quarterly reports on ticket requests, including types and timeframes for completion. Identifies opportunities for improving process.

Develops and maintains annual editorial/health promotions calendar, review content on external website and make necessary changes with web manager to ensure content is accurate. Manages content and scheduling for digital signage for both internal and external audiences at all DOH-St. Lucie and DOH-Okeechobee sites.

 

Tracks and reports agency meetings and events. Works with the Public Information Officer and other agency staff to coordinate special events for DOH-St. Lucie and DOH-Okeechobee counties that promote programs and services.  Responsibilities may include, but not limited to securing venues, setting up room, managing audio/visual equipment, coordinating vendors, managing speakers, designing agenda and event promotional materials, and managing event registration.

 

Travels within St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties on occasion to meet with programmatic staff and leadership to define communication project’s goal, scope, and target audience, as well as attended meetings and support agency events. Performs other related duties as assigned, including, but not limited to disaster preparedness activities.  Attend all required DOH and other meetings/trainings. Apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge, skills, and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of public relations practices to include research, planning, implementation and evaluation. Ability to use graphic design to craft visually appealing communication pieces. Ability to craft targeted messaging to diverse organizations and audiences.  Public speaking, written communication, and event planning. 

 

Qualifications:

 

Minimum:

  • Three years of experience developing written communication materials.
  • Three years of experience designing graphics for communication projects.
  • Three years managing social media pages.
  • A valid Driver’s license. If out of state, a valid Florida Driver's license is required within 30 days of hire.
  • One year of experience coordinating outreach events.
  • This position requires occasional work on evenings and weekends.
  • This position requires occasion travel within St. Lucie and Okeechobee counties.
  • You may need to use your own personal vehicle at times. 
  • Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency
  • This position requires that a candidate be able to lift 30 pounds unassisted.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree within the field of sociology, psychology, education, marketing, business, public relations, or related field.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole)
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and graphic design software and/or platforms.
