Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position provides nutritional assessment, education, CERTIFICATION, and counseling to clients AND MEDICALLY HIGH-RISK CLIENTS of the supplemental food program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program.

 

Provides excellent customer service to clients displaying courtesy and respect while expediting their visit to reduce wait time. Interviews WIC clients to certify for the WIC program per state WIC program policies and regulations stated in DHM 150-24.  Performs a nutritional assessment screening and analyzes medical and anthropometric data to determine nutritional risk eligibility. Monitors accuracy of completion of growth grids and measurement techniques by Health Support Specialists.  Develops client nutritional care plans to include from 1-2 client-centered SMART goals and prescribes food packages. Documents in the FL-Wise electronic record within 24hours of service. Provides individual and group nutrition counseling and nutrition education.  Completes low and high-risk nutrition assessment, nutritional counseling, certification, and referrals. Completes nutrition assessment, nutrition care plans and counsels medically high-risk WIC clients for certifications, follow up appointments and confers with medical providers on exempt formulas and medical conditions of clients. Completes medically high-risk nutritional care plans for clients certified by nutrition educator staff in WIC to meet state guidelines for a licensed dietitian/nutritionist to complete the care plan for these medically high-risk clients within 45 days.  Refers and coordinates client care with health and social service agencies. Documents in FL-Wise electronic client records by end of business day.  In rare emergencies, a late entry note must follow local and state protocol. Distributes exempt infant formulas to WIC clients as prescribed by a Physician/ARNP/Physician assistant per WIC program guidelines.   Handles receipt of exempt formula and distributes per local procedures. Promotes and supports breastfeeding; distributes breast pumps per guidelines and makes referrals to peer counselors and the Lactation Consultant.  Performs duties utilizing a teamwork approach to assure program objectives are coordinated with other staff to achieve desired results.  Cultivates positive work relationships with co-workers and communicates key concepts to supervisor and co-workers for efficient operations. Maintains client confidentiality and security in accordance DOHP50-10-10 Information Security & Privacy Policy Confidential Information.

Select, develop, and evaluate client educational material. Participates in the development, planning and carrying out of objectives/activities in the Bi-ennial Nutrition Program Plan. Coordinates nutrition education services for assigned clients and provides nutrition in-services for community groups.  Coordinates outreach for health fairs/community activities and community in-services. Completes Healthy Start nutritional counselling for medically high risk and other referrals as assigned. Assist with instruction and grading of the Florida Nutrition Modules for new employees as a supervising nutritionist for this activity.

Accurately completes all forms such as EARs in HMS, People First leave and attendance records, travel, etc., by the required deadlines.  Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training, and other professional and staff developmental activities.  Maintains licensure requirements.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Nutrition assessment, nutrition counseling, nutrition education and nutrition presentations.  Computer skills, time management

 

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • Registered Dietitian and FL Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist
  • Excellent computer skills and writing/speaking skills.
  • Nutrition counseling skills and ability
  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an
    emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters,
    or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster
    or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

Preferred

  • Experience working in the WIC program.
  • Four months of nutrition counseling/education
