Your Specific Responsibilities:
Job Description: The Florida Department of Health in St. Lucie County is seeking a Chief Deputy Registrar (CDR) to support the administration of vital records, including birth and death certificates. This position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with Florida Statutes, maintaining accurate records, and assisting the public with vital record requests.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Process and issue birth and death certificates in accordance with Florida Department of Health guidelines. Verify documentation and ensure compliance with state and county regulations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for vital records inquiries within St. Lucie County. Work closely with local hospitals, funeral homes, and medical examiners to ensure timely and accurate death certificate registration.
- Maintain and update records in the Florida Electronic Vital Records System (EVRS). Assist in data collection and reporting on birth and death trends specific to St. Lucie County.
- Provide guidance to residents on obtaining certified copies of vital records. Ensure compliance with Florida Statutes regarding confidentiality and security of records. Respond to inquiries from state agencies, legal representatives, and the public regarding vital statistics.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Florida Vital Statistics laws and regulations governing birth and death records.
- Understanding of electronic records systems (EVRS preferred) and data entry procedures.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in record processing and issuance.3
- Ability to interpret and apply state and federal regulations related to vital records.
- Excellent customer service skills to assist the public with record requests and inquiries.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with hospitals, funeral homes, and government agencies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Problem-solving skills to address discrepancies in vital records and resolve issues efficiently.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate filing systems.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years of customer service experience in public administration or a similar role.
- 1+ years of experience in records processing or a similar role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Florida Vital Statistics laws and procedures.
- Proficiency in electronic records systems (EVRS preferred).
- Experience working with government agencies or public health departments.
- Familiarity with data entry and reporting related to vital statistics.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in public administration, Health Services, or a related field.
- Customer service experience in a government or healthcare setting.
- Certified Notary Public (preferred but not required).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information.
