Your Specific Responsibilities:


This is a senior community health nursing position functioning as a Registered Nurse in the health clinic and STD program. 

Provides nursing services which includes nursing assessments, case management, medication issuance and administration, documenting in the electronic health record and referrals to other community resources as needed. This position will work in the public health nursing programs in Family Planning, RN protocol, Tuberculosis, STD testing and treatment, Immunization clinics, adult health/ Primary Care. This position is responsible for providing counseling and testing on STDs, HIV and Family Planning options including birth control, pregnancy testing and counseling. Assists physicians and APRN in clinic settings, interviews clients, obtains clients health history, and performs nursing assessments with referrals as indicated.  Autonomously runs the RN Protocol schedule. Performs related duties in the laboratory and other tests which includes drawing blood, interprets physician’s recommendations to clients, provides case management and follow up as required.  Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing.  Provides and documents nursing assessments for clients which include interviewing, counseling, health education, STD testing, and STD treatment in the clinic. Provides appropriate teaching and health education to Florida Department of Health clients.  Assists with referrals to private physicians and to outside agencies

This position performs generalized public health work for STD in an area geographically removed from direct supervision.  This position will provide nursing assessments, case management, and referrals to other community resources as needed.  Nursing services are provided to identify barriers to learning through the identification of health problems while utilizing STD testing with referrals and follow ups.   Assists the DIS (disease intervention specialist) with client interviews and lab draws. Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Nursing. 

Provides and documents nursing assessments for clients which include interviewing, counseling, health education, STD testing, and STD treatment in the clinic and community.  Interview’s clients infected with an STD and educate patients regarding their infection and future medical follow-up.  Develops a plan to locate and refer their sex partners and others who may be infected. Case manage and follow up for test of cure as required.  Conducts field investigations and record searches as well as follow-up on sex partners and infected patients. 

Contacts agencies to promote employee vaccinations and set-up outreaches with agencies including but not limited to Save the Chimps, FPUA etc. Organizes and provides outreach vaccination services. 

Participates in educational trainings. Attends mandatory STD clinic and county health department staff meetings. Attends mandatory clinic and county health department staff meetings. Completes required TRAIN. Maintains licensure. Performs related work as required and Other added duties. 

Maintains client confidentiality and security in accordance with DOHP50-10-16 Information Security & Privacy Policy.  Authorized access to designated secure area(s) (Med Rooms/File Room) granted by prox or key.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

RN license, ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and clients, ability to bend, walk, lift, sit and stand for extended periods of time, ability to conduct nursing/job duties in field settings to include all areas of all neighborhoods.




  • Florida Registered Nursing License or a multi-state Registered Nursing License from another compact state
  • One year experience working in the nursing field
  • Valid Driver’s License, if out of state a valid Florida Driver's License is required within 30 days of hire
  • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.

  • Experience working in a health clinic
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
