<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Charlotte Correctional Institution in the Maintenance Unit. This is not a classroom position.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY. EMPLOYEES ARE NORMALLY HIRED AT THE APPOINTMENT RATE.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">This working position is responsible for the Waste/Wastewater Treatment Plant at a Correctional Institution both in operations and maintenance. This position also instructs inmates in the special skills necessary to operate a Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant through an apprentice on-the-job training program designed to develop experience and skills necessary to assume and fulfill the position of Operator of a water or sewer utility. 
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Operates and maintains Water Treatment Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant in compliance with the DEP permit and DEP rules and regulations.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Carries out the preventive maintenance program for both plants. Orders and stocks all chemicals used in the operation process.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Repairs all breakdowns which can be done at the operator level and troubleshoots other specialized equipment for the utility operation such as compressors, pumps, air blowers, chlorinators, etc.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Cleans bar screens, grit chamber, settling, and sludge beds as necessary. Collects samples and performs tests including, but not limited to dissolved oxygen, total solids, suspended solids, settle able solids, biological oxygen demands, and acid or alkaline tests.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Prepares reports as required on plant operations from the results of daily tests. Maintains and operates logs and related records.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Prepares progress and performance reports for assigned inmates for use by the inmate’s classifications team in measuring and determining the rehabilitative progress of the assigned inmate consistent with motivation needs and the development of a positive approach to rehabilitation efforts.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Maintains custody and control of inmates assigned under the supervision of the position in accordance with accountability requirements for inmates outlined in operational procedures.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Participates in required departmental staff training to enhance background and ability.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Performs other related duties as required.

<span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES:  

  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to communicate technical information effectively.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to perform technical engineering tasks.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to interpret engineering data.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to establish and maintain a working relationship with others.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to work in a training capacity with people in individual and group settings.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to collect, record, and evaluate data relating to the training of individuals.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to prepare and maintain records and other instruction materials.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to work independently.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to speak clearly and correctly to individuals and groups.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • <span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Ability to communicate effectively.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • At least three (3) years of experience in the Wastewater/Water Treatment Plant field
  • A Class C Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License
  • A Valid Class E Driver’s License
