MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in forestry or related field. Course work must include the following four (4) courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration and Forest Management; or

Receipt of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in forestry or related field within six (6) months of the closing date of this advertisement. Requires possession of a valid Class E Driver License.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Occasional to moderate travel required. Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.

The anticipated hiring salary for this position is $32,988.80 annually.

JOB DUTIES:

This is a professional and administrative position responsible for developing, directing and coordinating forest resource management activities on the Babcock Ranch Preserve.

Responsible for assisting in the preparation, coordination and implementation of management plans on the Babcock Ranch Preserve.  This includes such activities as timber sales, tree plantings, prescribed burning, exotic species control, recreational activities, tracking research studies, road maintenance and repairs, and managing wildlife species.  This position may be required to perform Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) work, including FIA Certification by the USFS and the gathering and recording of FIA plot data in the field, GIS and mapping.

Maintains contact with cooperating agencies and private environmental and recreational groups to ensure cooperative efforts and input into the management of the forest.

Responsible for preparing and submitting accomplishment reports and vehicle records.

Provides wildfire and emergency response support as directed.  Assists in the development of smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning plans and hazardous fuels mitigation.  Assists in the enforcement of Florida’s open burning laws and regulation. 

Responsible for fiscal items which may include annual budget preparation, preparation and management of contracts for service, and recreational and timber sales receipts.

Maintains proficiency of new and innovative forestry and biological topics, research, endangered species regulations, prescribed fire management and total ecosystem management techniques.

Other duties as assigned, which may include handling of revenue.
