Your Specific Responsibilities:
The position of clinic Medical Assistant (MA) is under the direct supervision of the Senior Community Health Nursing Director.
The incumbent provides health support services for clients in the Primary Care, Family Planning (FP), Adult and Child Immunization, and Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) clinic. This position is classified as a sensitive position. Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Department of Health, HIPAA and Information Security and privacy policy. The incumbent has access to the follow sets of confidential information: CHD client medical records and the Health Management System.
The MA will assist the RN, APRN and MD with monitoring and managing the clinic area. The incumbent will provide first aid, assist with prescription and non-prescription medications (after training) when directed by the provider. Administer IM, Sub Q, and Intradermal injections. Assist with venipunctures. Perform EKGs and assist the APRN with minor in-house procedures. This position obtains and documents necessary intake information including vital signs in verbal, written, and electronic format to the RN, APRN, and MD.
This position prepares and stocks rooms for lab draws and procedures. The incumbent maintains clinic room inventory by completing logs and ensuring all necessary supplies are readily available in clinic rooms. The position will also assist with inventory counts of medications and vaccinations.
This position will perform blood draws as directed by the RN, APRN, and MD. This position will assist with performing rapid testing such as HIV, RPR, Strep, Flu, RSV, etc. and packaging specimens for delivery to lab sites. The incumbent will assist with clinic inventory which includes checking inventory logs and ensuring clinic rooms are stocked with necessary supplies. The MA will assist with inventory counts of medications and vaccinations.
This position assists with clerical duties such as records request, scanning documents into the EHR; assist with processing referrals and follow-up activities; and making phone calls to clients and other healthcare providers.
This position attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and in-service programs pertinent for updates.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ability to use standard medical equipment, CPR certified, experience with electronic health records, knowledge of basic medical terminology, and high school diploma.
