OPS Biological Scientist II
Specific Responsibilities:
- Responsible for coordinating Electronic Reporting (ELR) cases and Electronic Faxes relating to gonorrhea chlamydia, syphilis, and HIV. Initiates field records to follow up on public and private reported cases of STDs and ensure positive tests for diseases are entered into the system. Records and evaluate positive laboratory results and identify client locating information. Communicate with laboratories, public and private providers, hospitals, and other providers to obtain demographic, laboratory results. STD history, treatment, symptoms, and other clinical and locating information; arranges medical evaluations and treatments for clients. Ensure correct treatment and interview protocols are met. Ensures presence of confirmatory test or request one. Record search various databases for verification and investigation of demographic and medical information. Analyzes cases, determines correct course of STD follow up and assigns cases promptly for field investigation. Assists in analyzing congenital and maternal surveillance.
- Ensures notifiable STD’s are reported by healthcare providers and laboratories in accordance with Florida Statutes. Mails, emails, and E-fax updated reporting and treatment information to private providers and community organizations as needed and upon request. Communicates with providers, hospitals, laboratories, and other health care facilities and/or provide information on current reporting requirements for communicable diseases.
- Conducts field investigation to provide partners services to individuals infected with or at risk of STIs and Hepatitis. Responds to special requests and analysis of STD data. Maintains electronic files, laboratories and specialized records for STD and further contact investigation or follow up. Created and performs statistical narrative reports as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
- Knowledge of standard precautions to prevent transmission of infections, as well as airborne insolation procedures to prevent transmission is required.
- Ability to conduct health investigations.
- Ability to analyze data.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize and coordinate, and accomplish work priorities independently.
- Ability to prepare records and reports.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Knowledge of computers and basic software applications
Qualifications:
- This position requires current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. The Department of Health is unable to provide employment visa sponsorship.
- May be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
- Master of Public Health or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in Public Health, Epidemiology or Medical Fields or Sciences preferably with at least one (1) year of experience in related fields? Or an associate’s degree in health or Natural Sciences, with at least three (3) years of experience in disease counselling, interviewing and in direct field work, or a High School Degree, with at least five (5) years of experience in disease investigation, contact tracing, and in direct field work.
- This position requires daily in-office or field work.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
