Your Specific Responsibilities
The Bureau of Environmental Health is recruiting three (3) remote positions located throughout the state for its Food Protection Training Team.
This independent professional position requires technical knowledge of the Department of Health’s Food Safety and Sanitation Program (FSSP). The position requires knowledge and interpretation of relevant Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Codes, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Code. The incumbent will be responsible for providing food safety and sanitation training to Department of Health staff throughout the state of Florida.
Work duties include:
- Conducts formal classroom instruction, seminars, and workshops and provides on-site training to field personnel with duties in the FSSP program.
- Prepares lesson guides and program plans and evaluates the performance of trainees.
- Assists in planning and implementing seminars and workshops to be included in the training program.
- Prepares training records and reports.
- Meets with program personnel to identify current training needs for their operations.
- Prepared audio-visual aids and operated audio-visual equipment during training workshops.
- Participates in staff conferences and curricula development to develop and improve training programs.
- Obtaining the certified environmental health professional credential in food safety.
- Performs inspections for standardization purposes.
- Performs related work as required.
- Travels up to 50% of the individual’s time worked.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication.
- Knowledge of the principles of human behavior, learning, and communication.
- Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques of training or instruction.
- Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage
- Knowledge of basic computer skills, including the Microsoft Office Suite software
- Knowledge of risk-based inspection processes
- Ability to train individuals or groups of people.
- Ability to evaluate and analyze training data.
- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
- Ability to collaborate.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to training functions.
- Ability to prepare a variety of written training materials such as lesson plans, curricula, performance evaluations or reports.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to follow office procedures and practices.
- Ability to perform inspections.
- Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous and effective manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

- Ability to drive motor vehicle.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major coursework in environmental health, environmental science, or physical science or biological science with a total of at least 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of undergraduate coursework in these sciences.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in regulatory and training.
- Must have certified environmental health professional credential or obtain it within the first 6 months of employment.
- Must have valid driver's license.
