FSDB SALARY RANGE – 12 months:  $58,030.39 – $65,530.39.  This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree or higher in related field.
  • Current state of Florida educator certification in educational leadership K- 12, school principal K-12, or administration and supervision, or ability to obtain within a reasonable period of time upon hire.  If certification(s) noted are not from Florida, upon appointment, shall obtain state of Florida certification(s) within a reasonable period of time. 
  • Twelve credit hours of college coursework in hearing impaired or visually impaired.
  • Twelve credit hours of college coursework in career and technical educational or equivalent.  
  • Five years professional experience in related field.
  • Additional requirements mandated by state/federal law and position responsibilities.  

 

PREFERRED: Current Certification in Deaf/hard of Hearing or Visually Impaired or related area.

 

 If certification(s) noted are not from Florida, upon appointment, shall obtain State of Florida certification(s) within a reasonable period of time.

 

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:  Applicants under consideration for employment at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind will be required to complete background investigation.  Fingerprints will be taken and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a background check of your criminal history record(s) at the state and national level.

 

WORK LOCATION: Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, 207 North San Marco Avenue, St. Augustine, Florida

 

WORK HOURS:  Schedule is at least 80 hours biweekly. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Executive Director of Career Development leads Career and Technical Education (CTE) programming, student work experiences, and student enterprises at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, and is the liaison between the School and the business/economic community in St. Johns/Duval county, and, secondarily, between the School and other economic communities throughout Florida. Supervise staff working in the Career Development Department.  Coordinate and conduct staff meetings to develop goals and priorities that lead to a quality instructional program.  Supervise and assist in the instructional program by visiting classrooms, conduct formal and informal observations, conduct individual teacher conferences, review individual teacher's lesson plans, review and approve teacher Individual Professional Development Plans, and assure compliance with state adopted curriculum/course frameworks.  Communicate with other Assistant Principals and Principals regarding student behavior concerns. Lead ongoing efforts to restructure CTE programming at the middle and high school level in alignment with FLDOE expectations. Conduct an annual written review of occupational points/industry certifications earned, career experience placements, program offerings and makes recommendations.  Organize and participate in the development of Occupational Completion Points for each career area.  Maintain up to date information related to career programs/industry certification opportunities and disseminate to supervisors and staff.  Develop, maintain, and disseminate FSDB CTE Course Catalog to parents, staff, and stakeholders. Provide supervision and information for the development of a comprehensive work experience program both during and after school.  Participate in the development/refinement of procedures, information and forms related to career programming for all students.  Assist with the development of annual career-themed events.  Supervise the campus and Community Work Experience Coordinators and other staff as necessary.  Organize and participate in the development of CTE courses for middle school.  Conduct an annual written review of middle school course offerings to insure consistency with High School career offerings/make recommendations.  Develop, maintain and supervise the following programs: The D&B Designs (Promotional Enterprise), Building Constructions Technologies, D&B Garden Center (Horticulture), Culinary Arts, Print Shop/3D Printing Lab, and 3D Animation.  Collaborate with FSDB MIS department to review and accurately report CTE data to FLDOE. Secure resources and coordinate industry certification testing for students, CTE teachers, and vocational instructors.  Serve as the District Advisor for FSDB SkillsUSA Chapter. Facilitate on-going efforts to promote career awareness across campus.  Recruit, meet and evaluate current CTE programs offered at FSDB with Industry Partners and CTE program Advisors from the community.  Lead the establishment and maintenance of business partnerships, including serving as a campus wide resource of Business Partnerships with a business/contact person, establishing type of involvement, school contact person, agreements, etc.  Provide referral information from master list to supervisors and staff for community support of classroom and/or department projects, sponsors for specific career areas, establishment of work sites, etc.  Initiate and/or establish new contacts upon request. Coordinate career-themed recognition activities.  Work cooperatively with Public Relations, Resource Development, Community Education, and Work Experience staff to update campus wide resource information and to develop criteria for each for referral purposes. Coordinate, write, submit, and oversee expenditures and program goals for Perkins grant and endowment funding for special career projects/activities and CTE Programs.  Attend workshops and conferences related to career preparation and related issues.  Conduct professional development opportunities related to career education and development to campus and community stakeholders. Provide supervision to the overall business operation of the student enterprises within the Career Development Department (D&B Designs, D&B Garden Center, and Dragon's Lair Café) including but not limited to supervising the Coordinator of Student Enterprises and their work with internal cash control policies and procedures; internal inventory control policies and procedures; debit/credit and point of sale system; and working collaboratively with purchasing and accounting departments to ensure fidelity of procedures and processes.

Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Administrator of Instructional Services.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge of administrative principles and practices; Knowledge of Florida Department of Education courses and frameworks; Knowledge of impact of educational reform acts within the state of Florida; Knowledge of State Board of Education Rules and FSDB policies which impact classroom instruction; Knowledge in the instructional strategies related to the respective sensory impairment of the children within the instructional unit; Knowledge of acceptable/current administrative, personnel and student management techniques; Knowledge of performance evaluation systems for professional employees in an educational setting; Skill in applying the principles of quality assurance and risk management; Knowledge of Assistive Technology and accommodation needs of Blind and Visually Impaired students; Skill in evaluating effectiveness of academic and CTE programs; Skill in written and sign language communication; Skill in conflict resolution; Skill in group planning, development of objective and prioritization of goals; Skills in using word processing, data base, and spreadsheet programs on a MAC platform; Skills in principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication; Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; Ability to modify current educational practice to accommodate changes mandated by the State Department of Education, legislative action, or Board Rules; Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data relating to education and school-based enterprise operations; Ability to prepare correspondence and administrative reports; Ability to utilize problem solving techniques; Ability to communicate effectively with deaf/hard of hearing staff members on an individual and group basis; Ability to plan, organize and deliver inservice training activities for a divergent group of paraprofessional and professional staff members.

 

Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Intermediate proficiency in sign language, within three years of hire. Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.

 

SPECIAL NOTE:
