About Our Organization and Mission

The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families.  The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more, fulfilling our vision of preparing them for a lifetime of success.

 

The mission of FSDB is to utilize all available talent, energy, and resources to provide free appropriate public education for eligible sensory impaired students of Florida. Salary

10 month position: $20,280.00 annually (paid biweekly over 26-pays)

 

Hours

Sunday – Thursday 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities

The incumbent of this position works in the Health Care Center. Completes and documents patient weight, vital signs and reports significant changes to the charge nurse. Makes patient rounds and documents. Continually supervises and monitors patient behavior. Provides personal care to patient including bath and linen changes. Assists in maintaining a safe, clean, organized work environment for patients and staff. Demonstrates knowledge of program protocol and behavior management. Demonstrates competency in all procedures within the scope of practice as appropriate. Answers phones and filing as necessary within the clinic. Transport students to off campus medical appointments as needed.  Performs other job related duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired in CPR and CPI.  Knowledge of basic medical terminology; Knowledge of basic computer software; Skill in using medical instruments and testing equipment; Skill in taking blood pressure readings; Ability to interview patients and obtain complete medical history; Ability to follow instructions; Ability to keep accurate records; Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

 

Condition of Employment

Applicants under consideration for employment at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind will be required to complete background investigation.  Fingerprints will be taken and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a background check of your criminal history record(s) at the state and national level.

 

Sign Language Requirements

Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Intermediate proficiency in sign language, within four years of hire.

 

Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.
