FSDB SALARY RANGE - 260 Days:  $23,482.94 - $31,432.94 annually.  This range is inclusive of verified experience and education. 


PREFERRED:  Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment.


CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:  Applicants under consideration for employment at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind will be required to complete background investigation.  Fingerprints will be taken and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a background check of your criminal history record(s) at the state and national level.


WORK LOCATION: Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, 207 North San Marco Avenue, St. Augustine, Florida


WORK HOURS:  Monday – Friday, 6:30am – 3:00pm; hours may vary, schedule is at least 40 hours weekly. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of tasks associated with carpentry work and painting. Construct, install and repair cabinets, doors, shelves, windows, acoustical ceilings, door hardware, locks, plaster ceilings, walls, roofs, sheetrock, concrete, ceramic floor and wall tile, toilet partitions, etc.  Keeps accurate records of attendance and work orders.  Performs duties such as patching sheetrock and plaster on walls and ceilings. Prepares surfaces according to type of finish to be applied. Prepares and applies a variety of finishes with an assortment of different means; Operates pressure washing equipment.  Other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge and skills to safely use shop machines, power tools and hand tools; Knowledge of carpentry techniques; Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures; Ability and skill to safely lift various objects when necessary; Ability to apply pressure to an object with the fingers and palm; Ability to apply sealer, paints and varnish using brushes and rollers; Ability to ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms; Ability to follow safety procedures and directives; Ability to follow written and oral instructions; Ability to install acoustical ceiling; Ability to install, finish and repair sheetrock, plaster ceiling and walls; Ability to keep records; Ability to lift 50 pounds (with or without assistance); Ability to operate pressure-cleaning equipment; Ability to perform building inspections; Ability to place and finish concrete, brick, block, ceramic tile, carpet, vinyl floor tile, stair treads, etc; Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; Ability to read and work from blue prints, drawings and schematics; Ability to repair shingles, built-up, modified and tile roofs; Ability to repair windows, replace glass and window screens; Ability to stand for sustained periods of time;  Ability to work with minimum supervision; Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired in CPR.
