CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. New employees of the Department of Military Affairs will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  2. New employees of the Department of Military Affairs are required to participate in a direct deposit/electronic transfer program. 
  3. The Department of Military Affairs is paid on a monthly basis.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent; AND
  • Two years of basic professional experience involving electrical, plumbing, heating, air-conditioning systems, or structural and architectural systems

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push, and pull.
  • Must be capable of climbing a 25-foot ladder. 
  • Must have manual dexterity with hands and fingers.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carpentry-Masonry:  Alter, repair, renovate buildings, garages, sheds, and outside storage areas.  This includes finishing work inside and outside buildings most frequently.  Repair stairs, steps, porches, decks, banisters, railings, and install sheetrock, studs, headers, braces, ceiling, and floor joists.  Repair roofs, chimneys, brickwork, sidewalks, driveways, etc.
  • Drywall-Painting:  Installation of drywall and repairs of existing buildings to include installation of corner bead taping, mudding, and sanding, preparing surfaces for painting.  Application of paint to include preparation for primers and finish coats.  Operation of pressure washers for cleaning and chlorination of exterior surfaces for preparation of painting or applying other waterproof coatings.
  • Mechanical-Electrical:  Operate service, maintain, repair, and adjust air handling units, cooling equipment, generators, air compressors and a variety of mechanical-electrical appliances, fixtures, and equipment.  Inspect for and correct fusing, bad wiring, dirty filters, loose and frayed belts, rust, corrosion, and deterioration.
  • Plumbing-Heating:  Operate service, maintain, and repair plumbing and heating equipment and systems.  This includes heat pumps, pressure tanks, faucets, sinks, drains, toilets, and sprinkler systems.
  • Miscellaneous:  Periodic inspections, to include the condition and operation of all plumbing, heating, air-conditioning, electrical, mechanical systems, and equipment.  Maintain necessary maintenance and service records.  Performs any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Vehicle Maintenance:  Performs routine maintenance and safety checks on all State vehicles pertaining to this Agency.  Makes minor repairs as needed, to include light bulbs, fuses, air filters, belt adjustments, scheduling of all vehicles for maintenance and repairs, etc.
  • Position may be subject to on call.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the skilled building trades or mechanical repair work.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures required in maintenance and repair work.
  • Skill in using tools and equipment in maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to perform a variety of skilled trades functions.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to install, maintain and repair electric motors, generators, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to take accurate measurements.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
