CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- New employees of the Department of Military Affairs will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- New employees of the Department of Military Affairs are required to participate in a direct deposit/electronic transfer program.
- The Department of Military Affairs is paid on a monthly basis.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent; AND
- One year of basic professional experience involving electrical, plumbing, heating, air-conditioning systems, or structural and architectural systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push, and pull.
- Must have manual dexterity with hands and fingers.
- Must be capable of climbing a 25-foot ladder.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs. or more.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs all or some of the following duties, alone or as a member of a crew. Maintains restrooms and locker rooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and waxes floors. Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, showers, and toilet bowls. Cleans mirrors and water fountains. Dusts ledges and woodwork. Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap.
- Cleans offices, storerooms, corridors, stairways and/or other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, waxing, and polishing floors. Operates lightweight cleaning equipment, i.e., vacuum cleaner, and polisher. Uses mops, brushes, brooms, cloths, water, wax, soap, and cleaning solutions. Dusts, waxes, and polishes office furniture. Empties ash trays and waste baskets. Polishes doorknobs and other metal fixtures. Washes walls, windows, blinds, and wall partitions that can be reached without climbing scaffolds.
- Polices grounds, pick up debris and trash from grounds and working areas, waters grass and flower beds, shrubs included, rakes leaves, weed removal, and maintains base lawns.
- Maintains stock of cleaning materials and implements required to perform assigned duties.
- Carpentry-Masonry: Alter, repair, renovate buildings, garages, sheds, and outside storage areas. This is finish work inside and outside buildings most frequently. Repair stairs, steps, porches, decks, banisters, railings, and install sheetrock, studs, headers, braces, ceiling and floor joists. Repair roofs, chimneys, brickwork, sidewalks, driveways, etc.
- Trims trees, shrubs, and hedges routinely, installs mulch, sod and other vegetation for soil stabilization and erosion control.
- Removes litter and rubbish from grounds and roadsides ensuring worksites are clean and free of debris. Collecting recyclables as directed.
- Coordinates the maintenance of the equipment used to ensure periodic maintenance is performed. Ensures preventive maintenance is completed on equipment used to perform grounds maintenance tasks. Maintains tools and equipment with cutting edges sharp, clean, and ready to use.
- Maintains lawns and roadways using tractors, mowers, power tools and hand tools
- Miscellaneous: Periodic inspections, to include the condition and operation of all plumbing, heating, air-conditioning, electrical, and mechanical systems and equipment. Maintain necessary maintenance and service records. Performs any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of the procedures and methods used in the repair and maintenance of structures or equipment.
- Knowledge of groundskeeping techniques
- Skill in using lawn mowers, tree trimmers and cutters and other garden tools
- Skill in using hand, power, and bench tools
- Ability to repair and maintain wooden structures including furniture
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
- Ability to communicate effectively.
