FSDB SALARY RANGE - 10 MONTH POSITION (190 Days):  $40,000.00 - $65,210.00 annually.  FSDB hires from a minimum of qualification, plus increases above minimum based on verified full time experience and education.

  • Bachelor’s Degree, or higher, from an Accredited College or University
  • Current Certification in Visually Impaired (or eligible for certification upon appointment)
  • Current Certification in Elementary K-6; or Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum (or eligible for upon appointment)
  • ESOL and Reading Endorsements or Certifications (or eligible for upon appointment)

Note:  If certification noted above is not from Florida, upon appointment, shall obtain State of Florida Certification. 



Master's Degree, prior experience working with students with visual impairments


Teachers may be hired with certification in the area of specialty, with the understanding that the additional certification requirements must be completed within a specified period of time.  Teachers may be hired with certification in a subject/content area/instructional level, with the understanding that the area of specialty certification must be completed within a specified period of time. 


If there are no applicants with the educator certifications required for this position, we may interview an applicant with other educator certifications or who is eligible for a temporary educator certificate from the State of Florida.  Once hired, applicants will be required to obtain all certifications as noted for this position via coursework and/or passing certification exams.  Contract stipulations will be given upon hiring.


WORK HOURS:  Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 3:30pm


CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:  Applicants under consideration for employment at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind will be required to complete background investigation.  Fingerprints will be taken and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a background check of your criminal history record(s) at the state and national level.



  • Teach sensory impaired students in a state-mandated academic program
  • Expanded Core Curriculum Teacher; teach daily living skills, adult living prep and social skills to High School students
  • Conduct and direct student learning experiences using written lesson plans that cover the requirements of the State with regard to the Florida State Standards and course descriptions
  • Use required instructional materials with fidelity to introduce and develop concepts
  • Develop and maintain a classroom management program
  • Identify/develop, implement, use, monitor and evaluate long and short-term objectives based on students' IEPs
  • Analyze and utilize student data to drive instruction
  • Monitor student progress based on the goals of the IEP, and FSDB and State mandated objectives
  • Record and report data on individual students, i.e, keep grade books, report cards, progress monitoring reports, incident reports, interim reports, attendance records, etc
  • Document and correct disruptive student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures
  • Maintain a professional relationship with students, parents and other staff members. 
  • Attend trainings/meetings and implement skills acquired during professional development activities as required by Federal, State and FSDB mandates.
  • Ability to pass training and administer skills acquired during CPI and CPR.


Applicants who are selected for hire will be encouraged to learn sign language. Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.




All members of the Florida Retirement System are required to contribute 3% of their salary on a pre-tax basis.
