Biological Scientist II - OPS


This is a temporary position in support of the COVID-19 State emergency response.

This position will work an estimated 40 hours per week at the Florida Department of Health located in downtown St. Petersburg.



COVID-19 epidemiologists will support the state health office and county health departments response to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Assists in COVID-19 activities such as assisting with investigations, interviewing and contact monitoring. 

Assists with COVID-19 community health education and prevention information. 

Community education and prevention information may be delivered utilizing a variety of methods to include telephone, email, flyers, and any other method as directed. 

Places and answers telephones, ensuring calls are answered promptly, professionally, courteously, and are routed to the appropriate areas.

Provides coverage as needed for other DOH-Pinellas staff such as assisting with breaks and coverage during staff absences and as scheduled.

Performs related work as required.



Must be willing to work flexible hours to include after normal working hours and on weekends.   

Must have a Bachelors degree or higher.

Must have a valid drivers’ license. 

Must have the ability to effectively communicate COVID-19 health-related prevention measures such as the need to wear masks, social distancing, and sanitation aspects such as the washing of hands. 

Ability to fluently speak English and Spanish is highly desired.

Current State Employees - Salary for current employees is based on employee’s current payband/ paygrade.
