This position will serve in the Dental Services Division as a clinical dentist in St. Petersburg, Florida.

 

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:  Knowledge of pathology assessment and preventive measures.  Ability to diagnose dental diseases.  Ability to evaluate and monitor quality of care.  Skill in treating dental diseases. Ability to train subordinates on prevention.  Skill in communication. Skill in time management.

 

Licensure as a Dentist, Valid Florida Dentist License, CPR,  and successful completion of a drug test is a condition of employment.

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Providing dental treatment to patients primarily in the assigned center with services provided at other sites as necessary, including, but not limited to:
    • Examines mouth and dentition, and charts any pathologic disorders.
    • Reviews medical history.
    • Administers local anesthesia.
    • Evaluates processed dental x-rays.
    • Performs sealants, amalgam, and composite restorations where indicated, using liners, varnish or bases where indicated.
    • Performs dental surgical procedures where indicated, including extraction of diseased or irreparably decayed teeth.
    • Performs dental prophylaxis and periodontal treatment where indicated.
    • Performs topical fluoride treatment.
    • Refers patients to specialists for health care services not performed in the health department.
    • Educates patients on oral hygiene, treatment, and other programs.
    • Travels to outlying dental clinics.
    • Diagnoses and presents to patients existing dental or oral pathology.
    • Prescribes medications for treatment or prevention of dental infection and relief of dental pain.
    • Treats post-operative complications and provides emergency treatment when indicated

Current State Employees - Salary for current employees is based on employee’s current payband/ paygrade.
