Senior Community Health Nurse

This position will serve in the Immunization Outreach program in the Disease Control and Health Protection providing services related to hepatitis A response activities. The incumbent will work independently under the supervision of the Immunization Program Manager. 


This is a highly responsible, professional position that serves as a senior community health nurse in Immunization Outreach and requires a high degree of independence and initiative, while ensuring program operations are consistent with state mandates. This position requires local travel and some weekend and evening hours. 


The scope of practice will be promoting, maintaining, and improving individual and/or community health by providing immunization education and services. The incumbent may also assist in other areas of Disease Control and Health Protection as needed.


Responsibilities include:


Completing existing hepatitis A vaccination outreaches as scheduled.

Recruits facilities who serve high-risk populations for general hepatitis A vaccination outreaches.

Serving in hepatitis A contact investigation outreaches as the nurse who will provide vaccinations.

Making house visits to contacts to hepatitis A cases for PEP who are unable to get to a DOH-Pinellas clinic.

Reporting to Surveillance Program staff the number of vaccinations given at outreaches.

Tracking community participation at vaccination outreaches to determine the need to continue at that location.

As time permits, assisting in hepatitis A epi investigations, enters vaccinations and looks up contacts in FL SHOTS





  • Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices, and techniques. 
  • Ability to work with clients and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to plan and evaluate services provided.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate preventative health care and basic health care.
  • Knowledge of community resources.


    Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse, as required in Chapter 464, Florida Statutes
  • Florida Drivers’ License.
