Your Specific Responsibilities:
The incumbent functions under the supervision of the Health Educator Consultant – SES (Clerical Supervisor) and is expected to process customers applying for the Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
Determines income eligibility of current and potential WIC Program participants based on Federal and State income guidelines and procedures for income documentation. Inputs income data accurately into FL-WiSE. Assigns WIC EBT cards to Clients and/or Authorized Representative and issues benefits onto WIC EBT cards. Makes the appropriate follow-up appointment per Breastfeeding protocol and Nutritionist instructions. Thoroughly provides second nutrition education contacts after completion of nutrition/breastfeeding modules. Instructs authorized representative on the co-caretaker/proxy procedures and certification period(s). Completes and/or updates WIC Program verification of certification /identification (ID/VOC) cards. Instructs participants in redemption process of WIC Program EBT benefits. Notifies participant of their rights and obligations as a WIC Program participant. Provides all new clients with "How WIC Works" pamphlet and allowed foods brochure.
Offers the opportunity for Voters Registration to each eligible participant at certification, mid-certification and when address changes; enters information into FL-WiSE and turns in all completed Voters Registration forms to elections worker. Measures height / length and weight of clients and documents this information in the WIC computer system, FL-WiSE. Draws blood samples and performs routine laboratory tests to check the client's hemoglobin level and documents the results in FL-WiSE.
Obtains demographic data through phone interviews with current and potential WIC participants. Makes appointments for customers utilizing the FL-WISE computer system. Schedules, reschedules, and cancels appointments efficiently and accurately, maintaining confidentiality. When assigned, retrieves voicemail messages from the appointment line throughout the workday, clearing all messages before the end of the day. Returns messages or forwards voicemails as needed. Updates client information in FL-WISE system. Informs potential new clients of WIC income eligibility guidelines and advises all clients of items they need to bring to their appointment. Provide callers with information or phone numbers for various services within or outside of the health department.
Follows procedures for issuing formula to Direct Distribution clients. Acts of backup to the Administrative Assistant Responsible for processing invoices for exempt infant formula and medical foods in compliance with the mandatory requirements of Section 215.422, Florida Statute and Chapter 69I-24 Florida Administrative Code.
Assists with training of new WIC staff, as needed. Accurately completes and submits daily employee activity reports (EARs) and People First timesheets by required deadlines. Ensures that time is recorded accurately, and that EARs and timesheets match prior to submitting to supervisor. Represents DOH-Seminole WIC Program through active participation in outreach activities / community events that will promote increased WIC participation; attends at least one event per year. Participates in nutrition and breastfeeding education activities and completes all periodic DOH and WIC required training.

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: Knowledge of general office procedures, practices and organization skills; cultural sensitivity. Skill in: providing professional customer service; effective communication; Ability to: use online computer system and word processing; do basic math calculations and good language skills; work a flexible schedule as needed; organize and maintain files and records efficiently; follow instructions and review data for accuracy and completeness; function in a busy environment; perform multiple tasks while maintaining organization of area.
Qualifications:
This position requires staff to work Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, and incubment will be required to adjust their work week to attend at least two outreach event on a Saturday per year. Are you willing to do this?
