Condition of Employment:

The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County is looking for self-motivated, hardworking individuals for a Medical Technologist I located in Sanford, FL. 32773.

Condition of Employment:

This position may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disasters or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. This position will maintain confidentiality and security of records as specified by departmental regulations and laws.

This position is a full-time, in-office position.  Are you willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties & responsibilities of the positions            

Your Specific Responsibilities

Under the Supervision of the EXECUTIVE COMM HEALTH NURSING DIR - SES, the incumbent to this position will provide a variety of health services and client coordination duties and responsibilities within the Clinic/Laboratory/Community area of the Health Department.  Duties will include but are not limited to the following.

Specimen Collection: The incumbent to this position will collect samples and specimens of blood, urine and other bodily fluids ordered by clinical representative as required for analysis. The incumbent will maintain responsibility for initiating, analyzing, completing, and logging results within the tracking mechanisms implemented. Incumbent will perform phlebotomies; Prepare reports of test results; Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment as required; Perform quality control testing for all procedures as required. Incumbent will also hold the position of the Health Support Technician in the Clinic and will cover /rotate all aspects of DOH that supports clinical testing. The incumbent to this position will be responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of each collection.  He/she will ensure proper placement/distribution of lab requisition for input into both State and other Lab systems. Incumbent will also be responsible for training new staff to support Lab/Clinic/Community with specimen collection.

In-House and Mobile Outreach Tests - The incumbent to this position will maintain responsibility in the conduction of in-house and mobile/outreach testing, to include pregnancy tests, clean catches, urine collection, collection of blood, specimens for cultures/smears,  and finger sticks. The incumbent will maintain responsibility for initiating, analyzing, completing, and logging results within the tracking mechanisms implemented.  Results will be provided to clinical representatives in a timely fashion and copies filed. Incumbent will follow up with billing lab invoices and provide billing information to our Billing Dept

Packaging/Shipping of Specimens - The incumbent to this position will maintain responsibility in the proper wrapping for surgical procedures, packaging, labeling, and shipping of all laboratory specimens being sent off site for analysis.  He/she will ensure proper manifest inclusion, establishment of tracking and distribution/filing of shipping information. coverage to include medication inventory, assemble and keep track of procedure kit, instrument sterilization and maintenance of sterilization equipment.

Administrative Support Coverage - The incumbent to this position will provide support coverage as needed to ensure proper functioning of the unit and clinic. Support coverage includes inputting of laboratory test requests/updated into HMS, Lab Corps and Quest Programs, assisting in the receipt and distribution of laboratory test results, Incumbent will follow up with billing lab reports and provide billing information to our Billing Dept. Ordering/purchasing of laboratory/administrative supplies, and ensuring the timely inspection/maintenance of all laboratory equipment. Incumbent will also make corrections on Lab Corps and Quest programs weekly or as needed in addition to reconciling laboratory invoices/services.

Equipment Validation - The incumbent to this position will maintain responsibility for the review and verification of laboratory equipment, ensuring consistent testing of equipment and analysis of results.  He/she will notify the proper staff member of any discrepancies so that follow up actions may be taken.

Incumbent may be required to work beyond normal work hours in response to disasters and Public Health Emergencies including being assigned to Special Needs Shelters.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of general office procedures, practices, and organization skills; cultural sensitivity; medical technology practices and procedures; the types of laboratory tests; laboratory equipment and testing procedures; chemicals and reagents; the significance of laboratory tests.  Skill in operating laboratory and scientific equipment for conducting tests; providing professional customer service; taking vital signs.  Ability to communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; use online computer system and word processing; do basic math calculations and good language skills; organize and maintain files and records efficiently; follow instructions and review data for accuracy and completeness; function in a busy environment; perform multiple tasks while maintaining organization of area.
