Your Specific Responsibilities:

The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County is looking for self-motivated, hardworking individuals to a Senior Community Health Nurse position located in Sanford, FL. 32773.

 

Condition of Employment:

This position may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disasters or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. This position will maintain confidentiality and security of records as specified by departmental regulations and laws.

This position requires a Valid Florida Driver License.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

This is a Generalist Nursing position that will be cross-trained to work across all departments providing clinical services at the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole). The nurse will provide coverage in the general clinic for Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV client services and other clinical departments as needed.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

The incumbent in this position will provide professional nursing duties in the clinical services departments. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Administers nursing services in the clinic setting of the DOH-Seminole for Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, Epidemiology, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, Refugee Health, School Health and HIV. Administers treatment as ordered by clinicians.

Participates in quality assurance activities through periodic chart reviews, daily medication inventory, timely follow-up of client lab results for education and treatment.

Performs monthly nursing assessments and screenings for Tuberculosis and Refugee Health as established by the Florida Department of Health Tuberculosis and Refugee Health Programs Guidelines. Coordinates and/or performs tasks related to infectious disease testing for clients and collaborates with other clinical team members to process and ship specimens.

Provides interviews, reviews laboratory results and nursing education for clients in Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, Epidemiology, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, Refugee Health, School Health and HIV client services. Provides accurate completion of the Superbill to facilitate the check-out and billing process for each client.

Administers medications/immunization services in the clinic setting of the FDOH Seminole including satellite clinic sites utilizing the current CDC immunization schedule and utilizing safe recommended techniques for medication administration.  Completes required documentation in Florida Shots and the Health Management System (HMS). 

Review of immunizations records for missing doses for both child and adult health, administering required immunizations, and preparing and issuing necessary forms for school, college, employment, refugee, or travel. Providing client education as necessary.

Completes required electronic documentation in Health Management System (HMS). Provides care utilizing the statement of work for each program grant, state policy and local DOH protocols. Comply with program requirements through participation in ongoing training and updates in the TRAIN online system.

Assist with orientation and training for new nursing and clerical staff. Participates in quality assurance and improvement activities as directed. Participates in health fairs and community events.

Other duties including responding to natural and other disasters and working in Special Needs Shelters.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have a valid state of Florida Registered Nursing License or a multi-state Registered Nursing License from another compact state (that is in good standing, with no complaints filed through the Florida Board of Nursing)
  • Direct patient care experience, within the last 2 years 
  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Emergency duties may also include in-state and/or out-of-state deployment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Verifiable experience working with any of the following programs: Immunizations, Family Planning, STD, HIV/AIDS, School Health, TB/Refugee Health
  • Work experience using any type of computer program to manage client electronic health records
