The incumbent in this position will provide direct services to clients in the Adult Health unit of the Department of Health in Sarasota County. Higher end of posted salary available to an actively certified medical assistant who is willing to accept case management duties, as noted below.





  • A Valid Florida driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation
  • Selected immunizations (MMWR Vol. 46/No.RR-18)
  • Participation in the direct deposit program within 30 days of employment as mandated per Florida Statute 110.113, 96-310, Laws of Florida
  • High school diploma or GED, and completed Medical Assistant program is a minimum education requirement; Certified Registered Medical Assistant strongly preferred
  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.  Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.





  1. Providing direct public health/clinical health nursing services in Sarasota County Health Department primary care Health Programs.  Duties include the following:
    1. Welcomes clients and instructs them in preparation for their visit, reviews paperwork for completeness and accuracy, and reviews chart for laboratory tests.
    2. Prepares client for clinic visit; performs height, weight, BMI, temperature, vision and audio screening, date of last menstrual period, and enters the information into the client’s record.
    3. Assists professionals in maintaining optimum clinic flow, identifies problems and seeks solutions in concert with clinic staff. Assists with client routing in the clinic area.
    4. Prepares inventories and helps with ordering. Assists in maintaining inventory of medical supplies, checks supplies in exam rooms daily, makes a list of items needed and restocks exam rooms as necessary.
    5. Monitors patient education material supplies and replenishes supply as needed before and during clinic sessions.
    6. Assists physician and ARNPs with patient examination and procedures. Sets up trays and instruments for procedures, passes instruments and suture to provider. Cleans, sterilizes and store equipment after procedure
    7. Provides patient education as provided to attain maximum health.
    8. Documents completely and accurately on all patient encounters using EHR.
    9. Administers medications, immunizations and therapeutic treatments as ordered.
    10. Participates in assigned activities to maintain patient care areas.
    11. Performs electrocardiograms.
    12. Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
    13. Obtains patients signature on consent forms as needed per written protocol.
    14. Supports the laboratory staff as needed in order to maintain patient flow.
    15. Performs required controls for glucometer.
    16. Copying, collating, filing and other clerical duties as assigned; provides telephone relief as needed.
    17. Upholds standards in record keeping and confidentiality at all times in all areas.
    18. Assists with obtaining hospital records and outside referral reports.
    19. Assists in preparation of laboratory requisitions and required paperwork for clinic visit; assists with patient appointment reminder calls. 
    20. Assists with obtaining medication authorizations.
    21. Fax and document medication renewal requests.
    22. Enters referrals and medications into HMS.
  2. Assists with planning of daily activities of the clinical programs including:
    1. Assures optimal patient flow by monitoring clinic processes and problem solving difficult situations as they arise with assistance from the clinical staff.
    2. Participates in long term planning of clinic operations by participation in unit level performance and quality improvement initiatives.
  3. Other duties as assigned
    1. Performs other related duties with adjustable scheduling when required.
    2. Attends and participates in staff development, team meetings, general staff meetings.
    3. Performs record audits as assigned.
    4. Participates in continuing education programs to support the quality assurance/improvement standards of the SCHD.
    5. Cross training to other clinical areas for as needed coverage providing provider support in varying roles.
  4. HEDIS/PCMH Compliance Reporting **(Certified MA only)
    1. Maintains triage nurse message logs and provide support to the triage process
    2. Administers care management process
    3. Administers EHR quality audits
    4. Completes daily activity spreadsheets
