Your Specific Responsibilities:

 

This is a Career Service, Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor position within the Highlands County Health Department that represents the agency and its mission and values. This position will supervise the school nurses and techs. that represents the Highlands CHD within the Highlands County School District. The incumbent is part of the organization and is expected to promote cooperation, courtesy, and teamwork in a diverse environment.  This position is under the direct supervision of the Community Health Nursing Director. This position is classified as a sensitive position.  Incumbent handles protected health information on a need-to-know basis following Department of Health Information Security and Privacy Policy and procedures. 

This is a highly responsible administrative nursing position. The incumbent in this position will supervise staff and manage the School Health budget.  This position will supervise professional and non-professional staff in the comprehensive school health project and will serve as the multi-school manager directing and coordinating services and activities for school students of Highlands County. This position is responsible for developing and updating the Comprehensive School Health Annual/Semi-annual Plan and present to the District School Advisory Committee every two years or as needed. Complete the annual school health report for submission to the DOH School Health Services Program per School Health Guidelines and policy. Employees abide by State/Federal laws governing health information.  Employees are responsible for maintaining confidentiality, security, privacy, and integrity of protected health information. Refers to and utilizes DOH 50-10-05 Information Security and Privacy Policy as needed. 

Exercises independent judgment in formulation and maintenance of school health policies and procedures which have significant impact on personnel administration and budget. Is responsible for direct supervision of School Health staff.

Is responsible for management of performance appraisals, planning and directing work assignments, approving leave, and certifying EARS/timesheets/travel documents in accordance with DOH policies and SMART objectives. Keeps direct position descriptions up to date.

Will participate in general policy and program formulation as well as evaluation of the quality and productivity of the school health program in relation to current and anticipated school nursing, community, and CHD needs. Plans and directs the operation of School Health, including quality improvement and client satisfaction. Incumbent will be responsible for the Frontline 3rd party billing and claims. Coordinate school health screenings, staff training and coordinates and manages back to school clinics.

Analyzes and plans for Community Health projects as needed in accordance with agency objectives, community needs and available resources. Initiates and evaluates programs, projects, and the delivery of services.  Serves on local committees as needed such as the School District Advisory Committee.  Serves as a liaison with local School Board and collaborates with other health care providers and community partners towards building an integrated public health system.

Maintains Nursing license, continuing education and protocols and ensures that direct reports likewise are current with licensure and continuing education including mandatory annual FDOH training. Assists with TB program case management. Makes home visits as needed, observes ingestion of medications for TB cases, suspects, and LTBI patients. Monitors side effects and documents findings. Assists in the Immunizations clinics, evaluates client immunization status: administer appropriate immunizations following CDC guidelines and documents electronically in FLSHOTS. Assists with organizing Immunization PODS. Stay abreast of all rules and regulations, maintain up-to-date protocols and procedures, and assure nursing and staff support are in compliance.

Incumbent is responsible for a total of 16 schools.  Travel is required.

 

Other related duties as required by supervisor.  Offers services to private schools upon request and availability.

Qualifications: 

Minimum - 

  • Incumbent must hold a current, active Florida Registered Nursing license or a multistate license from another Compact State in accordance to FL Statute 464
  • leadership experience.
  • Florida driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • 2 years clinical nursing experience.
