Senior Chaplain – F/C –70003477

 

This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Apalachee Correctional Institution in the Chaplaincy Department.

 

Salary Rate: $43,000.10 Annually

 

SALARY WILL BE APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH PAY POLICY. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE APPOINTED AT THE ABOVE LISTED APPOINTMENT RATE.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, develop, schedule, and supervise a comprehensive Chaplaincy Services Program that provides for the spiritual needs of the inmate population.  This includes scheduled worship opportunities for inmates, a religious education program, and special events as needed
  • Provides pastoral care to inmates in the form of personal interviews in the chapel office, confinement areas and medical infirmary, and provides information to meet the personal, interpersonal and spiritual needs of inmates during periods of adjustment and during times of personal and family crisis, such as death, critical illness and other emergencies.
  • Performs routine administrative functions such as scheduling daily inmate callouts, preparing and distributing volunteer participation memos before activities involving volunteers, processing inmate marriage requests, responding to grievances and completing assigned reports such as the DC88and inmate attendance report.
  • Recruit, train and supervise citizen volunteers to work with the Chapel program and maintain an accurate and up to date volunteer file for each volunteer.
  • Provides for inmate observation of holy days of obligation by making arrangements as requested and according to the Annual Religious Holy Day memo.
  • Tours compounds weekly or more if as needed, visiting all inmate housing, recreation, dining and work areas.
  • Provides religious orientation for new inmates.
  • Keep Assistant Warden, Correctional Officer Colonel and Chaplaincy Service Specialist informed of all programs and activities currently in progress or planned for the near future.  Discusses upcoming programs with various department heads to acquaint them with the programs and secure their cooperation as needed.
  • Administers the budget for the Chaplaincy department.  Prepares and coordinates operating procedures regarding religious activities and programs at the institution.
  • Ensures that the Chaplaincy department is in compliance with A.C.A. and management review standards with all of the proper documentation.
  • Comply with all applicable rules, policies and procedures related to security and inmate discipline.

  • Ability to conduct fact-finding interviews.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in theology, religion, education, or one of the social or behavioral sciences.
  • Must possess a current ordination, or investment officially with ministerial or priestly authority by an ecclesiastical body and a current written approbation.
  • Must possess an endorsement by the appropriate official of the ecclesiastical body. 
  • Must possess two years of professional experience as a clergyperson.
    • A master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.
