ADVERTISING TITLE: GENERAL SERVICES SPECIALIST

This open competitive advertisement is for a SES (Selected Exempt Service) position located at Apalachee Correctional Institution in the Warehouse Department.

Our mission in the Warehouse is to efficiently manage the storage and distribution of supplies, as well as handle all incoming and outgoing mail for the correctional facilities. We aim to ensure that all operations run smoothly, supporting the overall functioning of the institution, and meeting the needs of both staff and inmates.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Salary: $39,321.10 Annually

SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Take charge of the daily operations of the mailroom and warehouse, overseeing the efficient receiving, storing, and distributing of commodities and mail, while expertly managing inmate gratuity discharge functions.
  • Lead and supervise the inmate workforce in receiving, shipping, and laundry operations, addressing inmate requests and grievances with professionalism and care.
  • Master the management of property tags and inventory for institutional items, coordinate surplus property reviews, and maintain meticulous tracking logs. Play a key role in the yearly property inventory and manage FLEET logs for institutional vehicles.
  • Drive efficiency by initiating purchase requests for inmate care, emergency supplies, and staff needs, performing purchasing duties, and ensuring orders are prepared within budget and time limits.
  • Be a vital communicator by regularly advising the Field Office Manager and Warden on inventory and cost-saving measures, ensuring smooth operations and strategic planning.
  • This position may require the incumbent to possess a CDL license.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid CDL or the willingness to obtain one. 
  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of professional or nonprofessional experience in business administration, purchasing, supply inventory, property management, food service operations or real property management.
    • Postsecondary education may substitute on a year for year basis for the required experience.

Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
