MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of professional experience in systems analysis, management analysis, program planning, program research, program evaluation, or administrative work.

 

A master's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

 

Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

 

Requires possession of a valid class E driver license.

JOB DUTIES:

 

This is a highly technical and professional position responsible for administering the Chipola Forestry Center’s Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) programs for the Chipola Forestry Center.

 

Develop and maintain geodatabases that track wildfire, wildfire risk, prescribed fire, timber management, threatened and endangered species location and abundance, invasive exotics location and containment, hydrologic restoration progress, road maintenance and repairs, wildlife habitat management, recreation management, boundary line issues, easements, and more. Convert data from various sources including ARCGIS, photogrammetry software, and UAS mapping software reformats existing data, collect data in the field using GPS, drones (UAS), and other technologies as provided, and maintain data integrity. Create and update maps, tables and publications for the Bureau of Field Operations, State Forest projects, and assist in distributing GIS data and tools to enhance the efficiency of Florida Forest Service programs.

 

Serve as a liaison with FFS bureaus regarding the use and management of Unmanned Aircraft Systems on projects. Demonstrate safe UAS flying techniques and follow all FFS UAS policies and procedures. Perform flights for requested UAS missions across the agency which may include missions in support of State Forest activities, prescribed burning, wildfire support, and other missions as assigned. Work across agency lines providing UAS support to other partnering agencies as necessary.

 

Provide wildfire and emergency response support as directed, which includes potential deployment of UAS for incident data collection and mapping. Assist in developing smoke management, wildfire prevention, prescribed fire, pre-suppression burning, and hazardous fuels mitigation plans, and help with other areas as needed.

 

Responsible for the proper maintenance of all UAS equipment assigned to the Chipola Forestry Center. Ensure the preventative maintenance schedule is being accomplished for all UAS equipment and all applicable Agency and/or FAA/NTSB reports are being completed. Responsible for tracking and ensuring timely repairs as necessary.

 

Research the GIS and UAS needs of the Florida Forest Service and provide technical support, as requested to district personnel. Responsible for providing UAS and GIS training to agency personnel. All UAS training will be under the guidance and assistance of the UAS Operations Manager
