Who are we?
FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
How you will make an impact:
The incumbent of this position is responsible for Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind day bus operation including, but not limited to, bus routing system, overall mainstream and vocational work study, coordination of field trips and management of dispatch office and motor pool assignments.
- Supervises staff consisting of 11 Bus Operators and 12 Chaperones, interviews, screens new driver/chaperone personnel; monitors and evaluates employees. Counsel’s employees on procedures and follow up on disciplinary actions, if necessary; reviews job performance and completes evaluations. Authority to suspend, discharge, or discipline subordinate employees or to effectively recommend such actions; hire, promote, assign, and reward. Ensures that drivers have required physical and monitors reflex test, certification, and required training.
- Directs the dispatch function and assigns both FTE and OPS Drivers and Chaperones to day bus routes; oversees and approves schedule that is maintained by Dispatcher. Provides scheduling and staff assignments to SHOW Program as needed.
- Assist the Director of Transportation with the management of all phases of the Transportation Department. Assist with the long-range planning, organization, and coordination of administrative student/staff services. Assist with establishing quality assurance programs to measure compliance with departmental goals and plans. Assist with leadership and direction to employees through in-service training, performance reviews, and writing position descriptions. Assist with interviews and selection of applicants for positions within the department. Assist with work assignments as necessary. Assist with the students Home on Weekend Program.
- Directs and supervises training of new and returning personnel. Plan workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization for employees. Keeps abreast of training techniques. Represents Director in meetings, conducts transportation business in absence of the Director.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job;

- Knowledge of automotive parts and supplies;
- Knowledge of principles and techniques of vehicle repair work;
- Knowledge of FSDB and State Purchasing policies and procedures;

- Skill and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
- Ability to inspect work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments;
- Ability to accurately maintain records and reports;
- Ability to inspect equipment for adherence to safety standards;
- Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures;
- Ability to maintain a Valid State of Florida Driver's License and meet FSDB requirements to operate a state vehicle according to the Transportation Policy;
- Ability to obtain/maintain a valid Class B, CDL Florida License with Passenger, Air Brake and School Bus Endorsements;
- Ability to pass training and administer skills acquired during CPI and CPR;
- Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24;
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in related field or a high school diploma and professional experience in the applicable area of responsibility may be substituted at the rate of two years equivalent to one year of college.
- Preferred: Three years professional experience in related field.
- Additional requirements mandated by state/federal law and position responsibilities.
Sign Language Requirements:
Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain Intermediate proficiency in sign language within four years of hire.
Please note: FSDB provides education to acquire sign language skills.
Hiring Salary Range: 12 month position: $51,121.29 - $58,621.29 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

Associate’s degree addl $1500.00
Bachelor’s degree addl $3000.00
Master’s degree addl $4500.00
Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20-year max) addl $150.00 per year
Schedule: Monday – Friday; Hours may vary; (at least 80 hrs biweekly)
