Who are we?
FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
How you will make an impact
The incumbent of this position works as the Athletic Director in a state-mandated physical education/sports program under the direction of the Executive Director of Physical Education & Health.
- Staff and Student Management & Compliance and Safety: Recruit, hire, and supervise Coaches and Athletic Staff, including evaluating their performance and providing training and support. Supervise Athletic Staff, Athletic Trainer, and Student Workers and monitor their hours/work. Supervise coaches and students during athletic practices/events, both during and after school hours. Manage contracts and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and policies. Write and submit incidents reports to the Executive Director, ensuring the Principal and Dorm Supervisor are informed. Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, FSDB, Athletics Handbook, FHSAA, and other association rules. Orient all coaches and staff on policies, procedures, and expectations, ensuring compliance with national, states, and school rules. Provide continuous, systematic evaluation of all athletic programs and make recommendations for improvement. Review the athletic handbook biannually and make any recommendations for changes. Attend required meetings.
- Event, Facility, and Financial Management: Schedule and plan middle and high school athletic events, including games, tournaments, travels, transportation, and special events. Supervise at home athletic contests. Prepare a master athletic calendar that includes all games/events, tournaments, playoffs, and special events. Arrange travel requests for away athletic contests and travel arrangements and overnight accommodations if needed. Coordinate facilities use for practices and games and give final clearance for the use of either the gyms or athletic fields. Monitor the safety, condition, and cleanliness of all athletic facilities and equipment regularly. Report damaged equipment and needed repairs to appropriate person(s) and makes suggestions for needed safety improvements. Work with transportation department to schedule all athletic departure times. Secure OPS Athletic Staff, student workers, and volunteers for athletic contests (setup/cleanup), chain crews, announcers, clock operators, scorekeepers, line judges, etc., and submit the list of contracted workers and volunteers for that contest prior to the event. Work closely with the Executive Director in writing Endowment funds. Monitor and administer funds, including coordinating the purchase of athletic equipment, uniforms, awards, and program needs. Work with the Staff Assistant to manage student records, create POs/AFRs, update changes, and arrange transportation or travel. Maintain an inventory of all athletic equipment.
- Engagement, Communication & Collaboration: Disseminate FHSAA materials and enforce rules, including player eligibility. Collect, file, and notify athletes, parents, and coaches regarding student eligibility. Collaborate with Academic and Boarding Programs to administer the Athletic Code of Conduct in a fair and consistent manner that is within the intent of the code. Collaborate with P&R Communications in planning and sharing events and information. Collaborate with each department to ensure the success of the Athletics program. Provide updates for monthly board meetings. Communicate efficiently via emails/text or any form that allows for the most effective operation.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.

- Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24.
- Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in related field.
- Twelve credit hours of college coursework in deaf or hard of hearing or twelve credit hours of college coursework in visually impaired or equivalent.
- Twelve credit hours of college coursework in educational leadership or administration and supervision or equivalent.
- Five years professional experience in physical education or athletics, three of which must be in a supervisory position.

Preferred
- Demonstrated success in improving athletic programs and building strong, collaborative relationships with students, parents, teachers, and the wider school community.
- Advanced degree in athletic program administration or educational administration.
- At least three years of successful head coaching experience.
- Ability to obtain Florida teaching certification in Athletic Coaching.
- Experience in managing budgets and financial resources effectively within an athletic program.
- Knowledge of compliance regulations related to athletic programs and educational institutions.
Sign Language Requirements
Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Advanced proficiency in sign language within one year of hire.
Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.
Hiring Salary Range 11-month position: $55,225.81 - $62,725.81 annually. (paid biweekly over 26-pays) This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20-year max) @ addl $150.00 per year

Hours
At least 80 hours biweekly. - Hours can be quite variable due to the practices, games, events, tournaments, and travels. - Must be available for evening and weekend events. - Examples of Schedule: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm / 10:00am - 6:30pm /12:00 pm to 8:30 pm depending on season and schedule of events.
