Who are we?

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.

 

 

 

How you will make an impact:

The incumbent of this position ensures high quality services to families using a regionalized Early Intervention system (for children birth through five who are deaf/hard of hearing) and collaborative interagency network.

 

  • Provide for the delivery of Early Intervention (EI) services by conducting the following tasks on a regular basis: Develop and supervise services for D/HH (18-36 mos.). Oversee, direct, and create programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families across the state of Florida to include on and off-campus and virtual options (center-based classes and workshops, webinars and online chats, Parent Advisor Services, Deaf Mentor Services, and Resource Parent Supports). Maintain effective services through a system of recruiting strategically located FTE and OPS staff to meet the needs of families across the state. Monitor off-site and on-site staff by conducting supervisory activities, performance reviews, approval of payroll, reimbursement and leave requests. Make regular contact with providers as needed to ensure training and technical assistance; provide regular, ongoing team training and team collaboration opportunities. Conduct on-going program evaluations to monitor customer satisfaction with program services and look for opportunities to provide continuous improvements. Monitor quality assurance by conducting on-site and virtual visits for observation. Review documentation of service delivery (i.e.: session reports, invoices, travel vouchers, etc.); Seek opportunities for collaborations and expansion of services.
  • Oversee the planning and organizing of formal training and webinar opportunities to internal and external professionals regarding topics related to best practices in early intervention for the target population. Model effective EI service delivery system and use of curricula for families of children birth to five who are deaf/hard of hearing. Work collaboratively with the Director of Blind/Visually Impaired Early Intervention to plan and participate in early intervention training, as needed: SKI-HI, INSITE and VIISA. Maintain local and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of FSDB's early intervention services as a model.
  • Ensure that client files (hard copy and database) are in compliance with internal, state, and federal guidelines.  Oversee the fiscal health of the program by conducting ongoing financial analysis, make spending decisions, maintain account records, develop long-term strategic objectives, prepare funding requests, work with the Advancement Department to request and obtain supplemental funds through grant writing and donor relations, create accurate financial reports for stakeholders and to meet the requirements of specific grants.
  • Provide direct home visits to a caseload of one to three families of children with hearing loss (attend meetings for the purpose of assessing and planning for the progress of each student within the caseload).
  • Attend conferences or interagency meetings to network with stakeholders and outside agency providers of early intervention services locally, statewide, and nationally. Collaborate with agencies, groups and organizations to facilitate training, partnerships, and technical assistance. Attend agency specific trainings as required.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of services available statewide for families of children 0-5 with hearing loss;
  • Knowledge of home-based intervention monitoring procedures;
  • Knowledge of child growth and development;
  • Knowledge of early childhood best practice;
  • Knowledge of the impact of disabilities on the family;
  • Knowledge of the social and cultural impacts of hearing loss;
  • Knowledge of the etiologies of hearing loss and its effect on normal development;
  • Knowledge of school and community resources available to aid the family and child;
  • Skill in working with parents of children 0 - 5 with sensory loss through effective communication;
  • Skill in the effective and efficient use of technology;
  • Skill in writing and meeting deadlines;
  • Ability to network with school districts and other agencies in the provision of home intervention services to families of children 0 - 5 with hearing loss;
  • Ability to monitor part-time and full-time service delivery including review of provider reporting data, regularly scheduled contacts and virtual/on-site visits to Parent Advisors, as necessary;
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement training and in-service workshops for Parent Advisors and other professionals;
  • Ability to work effectively with families from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds;
  • Ability to help families provide an adequate environment for the child's physical, mental and emotional development;
  • Ability to provide effective services to assist families to cope with grief, anger, depression and marital and family stress;
  • Ability to travel and work within flexible scheduling; Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR and CPI;
  • Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB OPP 1.24;

 

 

Qualifications:

•Master's degree or higher in related field.

•Current state of Florida educator certification in deaf or hard of hearing K-12, or visually impaired K-12, or ability to obtain within a reasonable period of time upon hire.

•Current state of Florida educator certification in educational leadership K-12, school principal K-12, or administration and supervision, or ability to obtain within a reasonable period of time upon hire.  If certification(s) noted are not from Florida, upon appointment, shall obtain state of Florida certification(s) within a reasonable period of time.

•Five years professional experience in related field.

•Additional requirements mandated by state/federal law and position responsibilities.

 

 

 

Preferred:

DOE Pre-K ESE endorsement, Infant Family Mental Health Certificate,  DOH Infant Toddler Developmental Specialist Certificate or relevant coursework

 

 

Sign Language Requirements:

Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Intermediate proficiency in sign language within four years of hire.

 

Please note: FSDB provides education to acquire sign language skills.

 

 

Hiring Salary Range: 12 month position: $60,610.85 - $68,110.85 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

 

Hours: Monday – Friday; Hours vary; At least 80 hrs biweekly
