Who are we?

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.

 

 

How you will make an impact

The incumbent of this position performs a wide variety of electrical and preventative maintenance tasks in support of the Facilities Department's mission of providing reliable systems and buildings in support of students and staff.

  • Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance on a variety of electrical systems and equipment including motors, compressors, controls, appliances, campus lighting, hot water heaters, kitchen equipment (including intercom systems), transformers, switchgear, distribution panels, interior power, and lighting.
  • Performs the installation of conduit, wiring, controls, and electrical devices for new electrical installations as required by code.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to install and repair electrical conduit, power, and lighting systems, single-phase and three-phase from electrical distribution through the branch circuits and all associated components.
  • Ability to perform complex electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge of primary high voltage and secondary voltage electrical distribution systems, and components.
  • Knowledge of safety control circuits for various types of systems.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and its application.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards as applied to electrical installations and basic safety practices.
  • Skill in the installation of conduit wiring and controls; Skill in safety control circuits.
  • Ability and skill in using and operating trade hand tools and power tools; Skill in using various trade meters.
  • Ability and skill to safely lift various objects when necessary.
  • Ability to work at various elevations using ladders, man lifts, scaffolds, and similar apparatus.
  • Ability to maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license and meet FSDB requirements to operate a state vehicle according to the Transportation Policy.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired in CPR and CPI.

 

 

Qualifications

Two years of experience in electrical work. Vocational/technical training in industrial electricity can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of required experience.

 

 

Sign Language Requirements: Applicants who are selected for hire will be encouraged to learn sign language. Please note: FSDB provides education to acquire sign language skills.

 

 

Hiring Salary Range: 12-month position, $39,634.40 - $47,134.40 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

*Base $39,634.40

Associate degree addl $1500.00

Bachelor’s degree addl $3000.00

Master’s degree addl $4500.00

Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20-year max) @ addl $150.00 per year

Sign Language Proficiency Level: Survival Plus $300.00, Intermediate $450.00, Advanced $600

 

 

Hours: Monday – Friday; 7:00am to 3:30pm
