This is a responsible environmental health position that conducts activities for programs in the
Environmental Public Health (EPH) department based on state and local codes.
This position is primarily responsible for activities related to the On-site Sewage Tank Disposal System (OSTDS) program. These activities include but are not limited to:
- Conducting site evaluations and inspections (routine and repair related)
- Conducting plan reviews
- Writing and issuing permits
- Inspecting and approving installations
- Reviewing and/or investigating complaints related to OSTDS
- Completing follow-up for any complaints or investigations
- Developing a schedule and sending Renewal Notices 90 days prior to a permit’s expiration date
- Completing proper documentation
- Initiating enforcement actions per policy
This position is responsible for activities related to the Mobile Home and Recreational Vehicle Parks Program. These activities include but are not limited to:
- Conducting inspections (initial, routine, and follow-up)
- Issuing permits
- Reviewing and/or investigating complaints related to mobile homes and recreational vehicle parks
- Completing follow-up for any complaints or investigations
- Completing proper documentation
This position is responsible for activities related to the Performance Bases Treatment Systems, Community Operating Treatment Systems and Service-Related Systems. These activities include but are not limited to:
- Conducting inspections (initial, routine, and follow-up)
- Issuing permits
- Reviewing and/or investigating complaints
- Developing a schedule and sending Renewal Notices 90 days prior to a permit’s expiration date
- Completing proper documentation
- Initiating enforcement actions per policy
Completes data entry as necessary, maintains records and files of inspections, investigations, tests and reports in an organized and professional manner utilizing Environmental Health Database, and/or other automated programs. Performs travel in conjunction with the above duties.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): Valid Florida Driver’s license, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in environmental health, environmental science, or physical or biological science. Certified in Onsite Sewage Tank Disposal System (OSTDS) or Certified Environmental Health Professional (CEHP) and certified pool inspector within six months of employment (Florida Statute: 381.0101).
Other job-related requirements for this position: Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
