WORK HOURS: Less than 32 hours per week based on departmental needs.
POSITION TYPE: OPS PLEASE NOTE: POSITION IS PART TIME
DEPARTMENT: ESOL-English to Speakers of Other Languages
REQUIREMENTS: Advanced level of proficiency in spoken and written Spanish/English.
IN ADDITION TO
Having obtained a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education OR
Have completed at least two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education OR
Possess an Associate’s (or higher) degree OR
Possess a Florida Paraprofessional Certificate
PREFERRED: Candidates interested in working in an educational setting, familiar with the facets of Exceptional Student Education, and/or students which are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, Blind/Visually Impaired or Dual Sensory Impaired.
WORK LOCATION: Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, 207 San Marco Ave, St. Augustine, Florida
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensure that all instruction is comprehensible to the ELL student by interpreting exactly what the teacher says, and/or translating assignments as appropriate/necessary, paraphrase and/or repeat lesson information/assignment instructions with simplified language as needed, assist with assignments as needed, assist with English language development, maintain open communication and collaboration with the ELL student’s teachers, inform and discuss with the ELL student’s teachers when the student does not comprehend lesson material/assignments, assist with communication between teachers, school, and families, assist fulfilling ESOL program/ELL Student Plan goals, maintain all personal and academic information regarding the student confidential, maintain all classroom, district, and/or statewide assessments confidential, meet with ESOL Director, ESOL Specialist, and ELL Teacher regularly to discuss student concerns and progress

*The education of children/adolescents who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Blind/VI, or DSI
*Strong collaborative skills to work as part of the ESOL team
*Problem solving skills to support student success
*People skills in a service-oriented educational environment
*Verbal and Written communication skills in both English and Spanish
*Appropriate knowledge of American Sign Language
*Organizational skills to balance a multi-tasking position
*Technology skills
