REQUIREMENTS:

• Registration as a dietician defined by the American Dietetic Association

• Bachelor's degree with a major course of study in human nutrition, food and nutrition, dietetics, or food management as outlined in sections 468.509, F.S., and 64B-8-42.002, F.A.C.

 

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:  Applicants under consideration for employment at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind will be required to complete background investigation.  Fingerprints will be taken and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a background check of your criminal history record(s) at the state and national level.

 

 

WORK LOCATION: Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, 207 San Marco Ave, St. Augustine, Florida 32084

 

WORK HOURS: 20 hours per week

 

Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to provide a nutritionally sound and cost efficient food services program that will meet the needs of students while maintaining compliance with all state and federal guidelines as they relate to the National School Lunch, School Breakfast, and After School Snack Programs. 

 

Duties:

  • Plans menus and develops recipes that meet all federal and state guidelines. Assists in planning special menus for students with health concerns in conjunction with school nurses, parents, and school food service staff.
  • Visits school cafeterias on a regular basis. Participates with the Director of Culinary Programs in all food purchasing activities, including bid specification qualities, and bid awards.
  • Conducts and coordinates food tests with students, staff, and cafeteria employees. Maintains the recipes, menus, and inventory control program. Interfaces with cafeteria managers weekly to ensure uniform compliance and understanding of the food services program.
  • Presents the FSDB Wellness food services program to parents and staff to assure understanding and a positive public relation. Participates with school food services personnel, school-based personnel, and the community. Provides nutrient analysis for all food items served-wide menu.
  • Provides technical assistance for food service personnel with the automated central food services management and inventory control systems.  Attends state meetings to remain abreast of new rules and regulations Educates students and parents regarding healthy food choices through school training and community outreach in compliance with our school-wide wellness policy.
  • Works with cafeteria staffs to ensure delivery of quality food services. Produces the monthly menus for print which provide students and parents with health and nutritional tips. Works with school staffs, students, and parents in promoting good nutrition. Develops, implements, and manages a food service training program for students and staff at FSDB, coordinating and integrating the program with department Principals and other educational staff.  Incorporate training through "Tasting" presentations and demonstrations with the students based on age levels. 
  • Assist/guide student workers, training them to gain usable knowledge for future jobs in the workforce.

  • Requires the ability to make recommendations that may impact the budget and manage the budget within the assigned department.
  • Requires the ability to use small office equipment and computers.
