Who are we?
FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
How you will make an impact
The incumbent in this position is responsible for maintaining doors, door hardware and locks on campus and assists the Safety Department in other essential functions on campus.
- Performs duties associated with keys, including but not limited to: cuts, issuing keys (new, lost or due to damage) and repairs from mechanical and/or electronic lock deficiencies. Installs re-keys and repairs locks, door hardware and cylinders. Specifies door hardware for construction and renovation projects. Reviews drawings and specifications for conformance with campus requirements including electronic locking hardware. Meets with FSDB project managers and contractors during renovations and/or new construction to ensure FSDB Construction standards are followed. Performs preventative maintenance on door hardware and all associated equipment per program schedule. Performs gate repairs as needed.
- Performs monthly inspections of portable fire extinguishers and coordinates/conducts monthly fire drills as required by NFPA 10 and its required intervals. Maintains an inventory of all fire extinguishers and records associated with fire extinguishers. Reports and records all deficiencies found during monthly inspections to the Assistant Director of Safety. Reviews life safety construction drawing/documents for code requirements and quality standards regarding fire extinguishers. Maintains annual contract and assists contracted professionals in the repair, recharging, annual, five/six-year maintenance, and hydrostatic testing of all campus fire extinguishers. Assists with and serves as backup for monitoring communications center during annual fire systems certifications and assists with any repairs as needed to ensure proper operation of the systems.
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs playground equipment, grounds and surfacing material for hazards to determine compliance with the safety standards in ASTM 1487. Assists with building safety inspections. Assists the FSDB Chemical Hygiene Coordinator with the maintenance of FSDB's Hazardous Communications program.
- Assists with and serves as backup for inspection, testing, certification and repair of campus EBI system, emergency warning system, emergency and exit lighting systems, and any other safety or fire protection equipment or systems as needed. Assists with the maintenance and repair of the campus weather strobe lights. Serves as a member of the Emergency Preparedness Evaluation Team for the purposes of critiquing all emergency preparedness drills, as well as assisting in the development of prevention/response/recovery procedures. Assist with accident investigations and safety concerns from staff; documents and relays information to the Safety Department and Facilities to remedy unsafe conditions in a timely manner. Assists with the monthly inspections of campus AED units and cabinets, replacement of batteries and pads.

- Ability to keep records; Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
- Ability to read and work from blue prints, drawings and schematics;
- Ability to work with minimum supervision;
- Ability to perform building inspections;
- Ability to stand for sustained periods of time;
- Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR;
- Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of professional experience in a safety program.
A master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in engineering, chemistry, environmental health, building construction, architecture, industrial hygiene, occupational safety and health, or physics can substitute for the required experience.
Professional or paraprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Hiring Salary Range 12-month position, $35,391.20 - $42,891.20 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.
Hours Monday – Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm
