Who are we?

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.

 

How you will make an impact

The incumbent of this position carries out all secretarial duties pertaining to the Deaf Elementary School Department as directed by the Assistant Principal. This position handles information that is confidential in nature.

  • Independently manages and expedites the general operations which includes purchasing, budgeting, generating letters, and preparing daily staff communication for the Deaf Department Elementary School office.  Facilitates the majority of communication between the Deaf Department Elementary School, the Early Learning Center, and all the various other departments on campus mainly by phone and e-mail.  Facilitates the majority of communication between the Deaf Elementary School Department, Early Learning Center, and parents of our students.
  • Takes care of immediate needs of students i.e., sending students to various appointments, minor first aid, and assists in emergencies. Orders supplies and maintains an inventory of supplies. Originates and maintains student files and department handbook. Keeps track of attendance for Deaf Department Elementary School students and staff.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of office procedures;
  • Knowledge of basic filing practices;
  • Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage;
  • Skill in operating a computer and keyboarding;
  • Skill in communicating courteously with staff, parents and students;
  • Ability to operate general office equipment i.e., computer, phone, Video Phone, fax, copier, etc.;
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and manually (sign language);
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
  • Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24.
  • Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR and CPI.

 

Qualifications

• Three years of secretarial or clerical work experience.

• College education from an accredtited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required work experience.

• Vocational/technical training in the area of secretarial science or office/business studies can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required work experience.

• A high school diploma or its equivalent can substitute for one year of the required work experience.

 

Preferred

ASL fluency, Knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel

 

Sign Language Requirements

Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Intermediate proficiency in sign language within four years of hire.

Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.

 

Hiring Salary Range 12-month position, $40,456.00- $47,956.00 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

Associate degree addl $1500.00

Bachelor’s degree addl $3000.00

Master’s degree addl $4500.00

Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20-year max) addl $150.00 per year
