Who are we?

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.

 

 

How you will make an impact

The incumbent of this administrative position assists the Director of Interpreter Services (Director) in the daily operation of the Interpreter Services Department.

  • Duties include but are not limited to: Assist the Director in office management by maintaining and organizing department files and information using records management systems; process a variety of correspondence by handling telephone calls, voicemail, and email resolving situations when possible or taking messages for others in the department; oversee the flow of information required to coordinate the functions of the department and carry out specific assignments as directed; conduct research, compile data, and prepare reports as directed; maintain department supply inventory, equipment, office supply orders, and general accounting records for the department; attend meetings/workshops as necessary for information exchange; compose routine correspondence of a non-technical nature; complete reference checks and assist with preparation of paperwork for the hiring process; prepare and submit Work Orders, Agency Fund Requisitions, Purchase Orders, Print Shop Requisitions, Personnel Action Request and Dual Employment forms, and Facilities, Household, and Transportation requests. Duties also include the ability to receive and respond as needed to incoming interpreter requests daily, maintain records of interpreter requests and assist in procuring preparatory materials to ensure quality interpreting services; maintaining accurate weekly schedules for interpreting assignments, assist with scheduling interpreting assignments as requested, provide staff and OPS interpreters with daily schedules for assignments and related information, support staff in accurate and timely submission of timesheets; keep accurate records of staff attendance and requests for leave; assist with communication to and from OPS interpreters for covering assignments.
  • Assist with facilitation of SLPI: ASL program, including receiving appointment requests, responding to inquiries, scheduling appointments according to the Operational Policy & Procedure (OPP), and including Human Resources on appointment confirmation emails and other SLPI: ASL correspondence. Assist with sending official SLPI: ASL results to staff and waiver forms to Human Resources. Assist in maintaining information related to SLPI: ASL compliance for staff and contacting employees/supervisors when evaluations or waivers are due according to OPP. Assist Director with keeping up-to-date database records of staff ASL skill level achievement and retention of SLPI: ASL results for separated employees based on department policy.

Qualifications

  • Three years of secretarial or clerical work experience.
  • College education from an accredtited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required work experience.
  • Vocational/technical training in the area of secretarial science or office/business studies can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for each year of the required work experience.
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent can substitute for one year of the required work experience.

 

 

Sign Language Requirements

Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Intermediate proficiency in sign language within four years of hire.

Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.

 

 

 

Hiring Salary Range 12-month position: $34,866.52 - $42,366.52 annually. (paid biweekly over 26-pays) This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

*Base $34,866.52

Associate degree addl $1500.00

Bachelor’s degree addl $3000.00

Master’s degree addl $4500.00

Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20-year max) @ addl $150.00 per year

Sign Language Proficiency Level: Survival Plus $300.00, Intermediate $450.00, Advanced $600

 

 

Hours Monday-Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm
