Who are we?
FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.
How you will make an impact
The incumbent of this position assists with preparation, ware washing, sanitation, and related meal service activities at FSDB.
- Assist supervisor or Food Support Coordinator with food preparation, meal service activities, and ware washing according to applicable policies and procedures.
- Perform cleaning as required and directed: ware washing, wiping, shining, sweeping, scrubbing, mopping of kitchen and all associated areas to maintain a high standard of sanitation.
- As directed, assist recording temperatures of food and required spaces such as storeroom, freezer and coolers. As directed, count and record related food service information. Assists with storage of food and supply deliveries, perform duties for events considered special: banquets, parties, receptions and cook-outs.
- Follow all regulations as required to have disease free food, and personal health and work habits, including wearing of clean uniforms, hair nets, hats and gloves as required. Operate and clean food service equipment, observing all safety rules.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others;
- Ability to operate various equipment such as a dish machine and other Food Service equipment;
- Ability to follow instructions;
- Ability to perform manual work at an industrious pace;
- Ability to use a step stool;
- Ability to work with, and knowledge of, cleaning chemicals;
- Ability to work in refrigerator or freezer for up to 20 minutes;
- Persons appointed to this position must be reasonably expected to have and maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during demanding situations encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being or that of their fellow co-workers;
- Ability to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50lb bags of food products and/or trash, with or without assistance) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday;
- Ability to visually monitor work area to ensure cleanliness as required by Federal/State standards.
- Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR.
- Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24;
Qualifications
Commercial kitchen or food service experience.
Preferred:
1 to 2 years of food service experience.
Sign Language Requirements
Applicants who are selected for hire will be encouraged to learn sign language.
Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.
Hiring Salary Range 10 month position: $28,080.00 - $31,080.00 annually. (paid biweekly over 26-pays) This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.
Hours Monday-Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm
