Who are we?

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services. FSDB is nationally recognized for its comprehensive educational services, designed for the unique communication and accessibility needs of students. FSDB also provides educational outreach programs for children ages 0-5 and their families. The FSDB experience provides students with the edge to do more, be more, and achieve more.

 

 

How you will make an impact

The incumbent of this position will support students at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind within the Career Development Center.

  • Support students in career preparation skills, employment seeking skills, job retention skills, and independent living skills within the CTE classrooms and in the Career Development Center, including assisting students with completing a career portfolio. Coordinate and perform various career related assessments to assist with developing career path plans for students. Distribute career assessment results in electronic and/or print format to staff, students, and parents in order to support IEP goals and college/career planning. Responsible for the programmatic operation of the Afterschool Campus Work Program. Primary point of contact for the Afterschool on campus work supervisors schedule, prepare and advertise job announcements for Afterschool Campus Work Program. Coordinate and conduct job interviews for high school students. Assists students visiting the Career Development Center with time sheets, job applications, resumes, electronic portfolios, interest assessments and job searches. Responsible for and guiding student OPS positions in preparing federal, state and agency specific employment documents for positions in the Afterschool Campus Work Program. Manage timekeeping process for OPS student workers and student payroll.
  • Support academic staff and students with using online college and career planning tools. Disseminates and collects semi-annual performance evaluations for OPS paid workers. Maintains Afterschool Campus Work Program budget and endowment request. Creates CTE related videos, publications and maintain CTE media updates such as the CTE Facebook and FSDB website. Attend meetings and workshops as necessary for information exchange and organize student work program guest speakers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of the college and career planning processes and resources;
  • Knowledge of job preparation and job seeking processes;
  • Skilled in engaging students meaningfully during instruction and individual meetings;
  • Ability use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Skyward School Management System, and Google Drive;
  • Ability to research, use, and incorporate into instruction internet based and digital resources;
  • Knowledge of career development for deaf/hard-of-hearing and blind/visually impaired students;
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of oral and written communication;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; Ability to manage student behavior;
  • Ability to determine work priorities, to assign work and to ensure proper completion of work assignments;
  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments;
  • Ability to directly communicate effectively with all FSDB students;
  • Ability to communicate effectively using sign language by signing across the continuum (English word order to ASL);
  • Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB O.P.P.1.24;
  • Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR and CPI;

 

 

Qualifications

A high school diploma or its equivalent and three years of experience in the occupational area being taught, as defined by the employing agency.

College education from an accredited institution or vocational/technical training in the occupational area being taught, as defined by the employing agency, can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for each year of the required experience. 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

Associates degree or 60 college credits 

 

 

Sign Language Requirements

Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain an Advanced proficiency in sign language within one year of hire.

Please note: The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind provides education to acquire sign language skills.

 

 

Hiring Salary Range 10-month position: $26,145.60 - $33,645.60 annually. (paid biweekly over 26-pays) This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

*Base $26,145.60

Associate degree addl $1500.00

Bachelor’s degree addl $3000.00

Master’s degree addl $4500.00

Additional Related and verified Full-time Experience (20-year max) @ addl $150.00 per year

Sign Language Proficiency Level: Survival Plus $300.00, Intermediate $450.00, Advanced $600

 

 

Hours Monday-Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm
