BIOLOGICAL SCIENTIST IV
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- This Biological Scientist IV position serves as a data analyst and assistant program coordinator for the Disease Control Division. This position works under the supervision of the Disease Control Research and Surveillance Program Manager and will also be required to perform data functions for the Division Director, the Executive Management Team, and the County Health Department Director as needed.
- Serves as the lead analysis coordinator for public health data reporting and epidemiological surveillance tracking for senior leadership, internal programs, and external partners. Collects, compiles, and analyzes data from Disease Control systems for ongoing monitoring in order to evaluate their effectiveness, to determine progress on achieving agency objectives, and for continuous program improvement. Assists in preparing annual performance reports, including progress on performance measures and evaluation results. Prepares program materials and other reports and materials as assigned.
- Conducts complex activities around surveillance and investigation of disease. This may include investigation design, targeted field investigations, interviews, and data analysis. Ensures timely follow up of appropriate measures and notification of manager. Attends meetings as requested and as needed including monthly program and divisional coordination meetings
- This position assists with the coordination and oversight of volunteers and interns in the Surveillance and Research Program. Completes professional trainings to maintain consistent growth and to ensure awareness of public health best practices. Completes timesheets and EARS reporting timely and accurately.
- Provides back up to other members of the Division of Disease Control and Health Protection as assigned at an operational level. This may include but is not limited to: Direct Observed Therapy (DOT), outreach efforts, immunization clinics, disease investigations, and traveler monitoring. Performs other related duties as assigned
- Assists with the collection and verification of data for the Strategic Plan, Community Health Assessment, and Snapshot measures. Prepares and conducts presentations for staff and partners as needed to share public health data. Investigates, evaluates, and reports on applicability, efficiency, and accuracy of statistical methods used to obtain and evaluate data. Assists with Research & Surveillance program planning, evaluation, and training for assigned activities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of methods of data collection and analysis, including the ability to access and extract information from multiple databases.
- Knowledge of public health policies and public health laws to include but not limited to information security and HIPAA.
- Skills in computer software programs used to facilitate job duties such as Microsoft Office Suite, R, Epi Info, SAS and/or SPSS. Skills in extracting and preparing data and information into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials that suit the needs of a variety of users.
- Ability to design and conduct evaluation activities and statistical surveys.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments and manage multiple projects. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and in the community.
- Ability to work independently using critical thinking and logic. Ability to use problem solving techniques
Qualifications:
Minimum
- Valid Driver’s license,
- At least 1 year of public speaking experience
- At least 1 year of data analysis in a professional setting
Preferred
- Master’s degree in public health or related field from an accredited institution
- Computer literacy and professional experience with the Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of epidemiological principles
- Two years of experience working with public health datasets
