Your Specific Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be a Medical Assistant who works in the Medical Services Division at the Clearwater Health Department. This position will work in the lab doing phlebotomy and processing specimens for in house testing and transport to outside lab(s). This position will also work in the clinic doing client intake and assisting providers.
Medical Assistant and/or Phlebotomy
- Performs Laboratory testing and patient servicing in a Health Department laboratory either alone or in cooperation with another technician or technologist.
- Performs daily maintenance of equipment.
- Maintains a clean and disinfected environment in lab at all times.
- Prepares specimens for transport to outside.
- Follows packaging guidelines to ensure proper temperature is maintained.
- Records and maintains records and results as required by Florida statutes.
- Stocks and orders lab supplies as needed.
- Results lab tests timely and accurately in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Performs venipunctures, urine collection and finger sticks for all clinics on all age groups.
- Responsible for quality control of lab testing and equipment.
- Helps coordinate laboratory flow with clinic nursing supervisor and/or center manager
- Utilizes the autoclave to sterilize medical equipment and assists with spore testing of autoclave
- Ensures electronic transfers for lab orders and other documents related to the lab
Medical Assistant All
- Assesses needs and provides medical support to other clinical areas as needed.
- Works in other centers and programs based on agency need.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and works additional hours as needed.
- Obtain all Florida Department of Health and Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County required yearly training.
- Completes EARS, Timesheets, and People First Entries within mandatory time frame.
- Schedules time off in advance, and collaborates with nursing supervisor to ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
- Meets productivity expectations for this position.
- Complies with Smart objectives related to position.
- Participates in quality improvement activities, including medical record review, attend in-service programs and staff meetings.
- Assists as directed in SNU shelter.
- Attends annual staff meeting.
- Obtains all Florida Department of Health and Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County required yearly training.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to prioritize work, identify changing priorities and adjust as needed.
- Ability to self-monitor work for accuracy and maximum productivity
- Ability to use multiple computer programs and software such as Microsoft office to retrieve and/or input data.
- Ability to operate telephone software and handle a high volume of incoming calls.

Qualifications:
Minimum
- Certified Medical Assistant as per Florida Statutes Chapter 458.
- Maintain current CPR certification every two years
Preferred
- Experience with CLIA waived testing AND performing quality controls
- 3 months’ experience doing phlebotomy
