Medical Laboratory Technologist II
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Performs routine lab procedures in accordance with established lab guidelines. Lab procedures include: venipuncture, urine collection and finger sticks for all age groups.
- Performs CLIA waived testing, including but not limited to urinalysis, pregnancy testing, hemoglobin, Rapid HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis C testing.
- Records lab results in the electronic medical record and immediately reports abnormal/critical results to a provider.
- Prepares specimens for transport, performs daily maintenance and cleaning of lab equipment, maintains laboratory logs, and performs proficiency testing.
- Stocks and orders lab supplies as needed.
- Works with Center Manager and Nursing Supervisor to ensure a smooth client flow for clients of all programs.
- Monitors the quality control of laboratory testing and proficiency testing, assists with the quality control at centers as needed
- Performs daily maintenance of equipment
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Skilled in the use of Medical Laboratory equipment
- Ability to perform laboratory procedures including venipuncture
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to effectively communication verbally and in writing utilizing approved DOH abbreviations
- Ability to use an electronic medical record
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to work with persons of different race, language, culture or socioeconomic status
Qualifications:
Minimum-
- Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technician/technology from an accredited institution
- Licensed as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Technologist by the State of Florida. If not currently licensed, willing to obtain and incur all costs of obtaining licensure.
- One year experience performing lab procedures including venipuncture.
- Experience performing lab proficiency testing
- Willing to travel to other Health Department sites as needed
- At least one year experience using an electronic health record

- Public Health Experience
- Familiar with the requirements of CLIA waived lab tests
