Minimum Qualifications:
4 years professional experience in a closely-related biological field or laboratory program is required.
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the biological sciences can substitute for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates with an advanced degree from an accredited college or university with a major course of study in geography, GIS, or related fields; knowledge of Florida’s marine and terrestrial environments; and professional experience.
Requirements:
Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory Level 1 background check at no cost to the candidate.
Office hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday. Not eligible for Telework.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:
The Center for Spatial Analysis within FWRI provides Geographic Information Systems (GIS) expertise, products, and support to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and several external partners. We are hiring a GIS specialist on the GIS data quality management team based in St. Petersburg, FL. This position will focus on providing GIS data management, metadata, and ArcGIS Online applications. The duties include but not limited to:
Respond in a timely manner to requests for GIS data and map products from the government and the public.
Assist with creating, updating, and maintaining FWC GIS data and metadata.
Create accurate and qualified spatial data from various sources, including paper or stable-based maps, GPS points, and satellite imagery.
Acquire GIS data layers from sources such as government agencies, non-governmental organizations and private companies for integration into FWC’s GIS.
Production of map products meeting cartographic standards.
Develop and configure web maps and web mapping applications in ArcGIS Online.
Participate in outreach activities as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) theories and concepts.
Proficiency with: ArcGIS products, Windows, Microsoft Office Suite.
Knowledge of spatial data collection and analysis principles and procedures.
Ability to collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret spatial data.
Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
