Minimum Qualifications:

Four (4) years of directly related experience in communications, journalism, film, video production, multimedia OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in communications, journalism, film, video production, multimedia or a related field and one (1) year of professional experience in video or multimedia production.

 
Preferred Qualifications: 

Preference may be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

Four (4) years of professional experience in video or multimedia production, including planning, scripting, scheduling, filming, directing, editing and post-production of long- and short-form video content.

A degree, certification or diploma in video production, multimedia, communications or a related field.

Professional experience independently managing video or multimedia projects from concept through final delivery, including coordinating production schedules, participants, locations and equipment. 

Experience producing video, photography or multimedia content related to science, natural resources, government, public information or other technical subject matter. 

 

Requirements:

Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory Level 1 & 2 background check at no cost to the candidate. 

The selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

The position requires the ability to lift and carry video, photography and audiovisual equipment weighing up to 30 pounds and to perform work involving equipment setup, breakdown and repetitive motion.

This position requires travel throughout Florida and may require work outside normal business hours based on production schedules, field activities, events and other assignments.

Work may be performed outdoors in varied field conditions and may include filming aboard vessels.

Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Telework is not available.

 
Position Overview and Responsibilities:

This is an advanced videography and multimedia communications position supporting the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI). The incumbent independently manages professional video and photography projects from concept through final delivery, performing creative, technical and administrative work to support FWRI’s communications goals.

 

Plans and develops concepts, scripts, storyboards, shot lists and production plans. Coordinates participants, locations, equipment and schedules; films in studio and field environments; and edits long- and short-form content for a variety of communications platforms.

 

Serves as FWRI’s lead videographer and a visual storytelling resource, providing creative and technical guidance for video and multimedia projects. Works directly with scientists, researchers, public information specialists and other subject matter experts to translate complex scientific and technical information into accurate, engaging and accessible visual content.

 

Operates professional video, photography, lighting and audio equipment and troubleshoots technical issues. Edits video using professional nonlinear editing systems and develops graphics, titles and other visual elements using Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro and related applications.

 

Produces content for websites, social media, YouTube, presentations, public information campaigns, outreach initiatives and other communications needs. Collaborates with video, photography and communications professionals across the agency on joint productions.

 

Serves as the lead audiovisual resource for FWRI events, coordinating audiovisual planning, equipment setup, operation, troubleshooting and breakdown.

 

Manages FWRI video and photography equipment, including inventory, preventive maintenance and repairs. Evaluates emerging production technologies, recommends equipment and software, and provides instruction on the proper operation and care of production equipment.

 

Organizes, archives and maintains digital video and photography assets, including metadata, indexing and long-term storage. Manages assigned multimedia platforms and accounts, including FWRI’s YouTube channel and Flickr account, ensuring content is current, organized and accessible.

 

Coordinates filming agreements, releases and other production requirements with appropriate agency offices. Ensures final products meet agency standards for quality, branding, accessibility, accuracy and scientific integrity.

 

Performs other related duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Advanced knowledge of professional video production, including concept development, pre-production planning, directing, cinematography, lighting, audio recording, editing and post-production.

Advanced skill in using professional editing and creative software, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Lightroom and related applications.

Skill in operating, maintaining and troubleshooting professional video, photography, lighting and audio equipment in studio and field environments.

Ability to develop compelling visual stories, scripts, storyboards, shot lists and multimedia content for diverse audiences and communications platforms.

Ability to collaborate with scientists and other subject matter experts to translate complex scientific and technical information into accurate, engaging and accessible visual content.

Ability to independently manage multiple projects and coordinate schedules, participants, locations, equipment, travel and other production logistics in a deadline-driven environment.

Ability to lead video productions and provide creative and technical direction to on-camera participants and production team members.

Knowledge of digital asset management, including file organization, metadata, indexing, archiving and long-term preservation.

Knowledge of accessibility requirements and techniques for creating accessible video and multimedia content, including applicable Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

Ability to evaluate production equipment, software and emerging technologies and recommend appropriate purchases or upgrades.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally, visually and in writing and maintain productive working relationships with coworkers, agency leadership, subject matter experts and internal and external partners.
