Minimum Qualifications:
5 years professional experience in a closely related biological field or laboratory program is required.

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the biological sciences and one year of professional biological experience in a field or laboratory program; or

A master's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the biological sciences can substitute for the required experience. 


Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
Experience with SAS or R

Experience with survey design or implementation

Experience summarizing scientific data graphically and/or in written format

 

Requirements:

 

Employment in this position is contingent upon a satisfactory Level 1 background check at no cost to the candidate. 
 

Office hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday.

Position Overview and Responsibilities:

Maintain standardized data files, perform data manipulation and estimation.

 

Run routine SAS/R estimation programs to:

Process, manipulate, and analyze data.

Produce routine sample draws.

Produce and maintain public use files.

Produce estimates of recreational fishing effort and landings.

 

Fulfill data requests, provide standardized datasets for use in stock assessments and fisheries management, and make estimates publicly available.

 

Assist with development, testing, and implementation of new survey methods to improve response rates, address potential bias, and reduce potential sources of error.

 

Assist with survey validation tests.

 

Synthesize and analyze data and summarize results for use in reports and manuscripts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Proficient with SAS and/or R

Knowledge of fisheries dependent monitoring methods.

Experience synthesizing and summarizing data.

Experience querying data from relational database management systems, including SQL.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate technical information to colleagues and prepare technical documentation.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team, and independently with minimal supervision.

Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
