FLORIDA YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY
The Florida Youth Challenge Academy’s mission is to provide a highly disciplined and motivational environment, free from outside distractions, which fosters academics, leadership, development, personal growth, self-esteem, and physical fitness for qualifying high school dropouts. The Academy consists of an operational staff and cadre with in-depth military experience, certified instructors from the Clay County School District system, a registered nurse, counselors and recruitment and placement personnel.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- New employees of the Department of Military Affairs will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- New employees of the Department of Military Affairs are required to participate in a direct deposit/electronic transfer program.
- The Department of Military Affairs is paid on a monthly basis.
- This position is a Cooperative Agreement position.
- As a CANDIDATE, you may be required to provide documentation (i.e., High School Diploma or Equivalency, College Transcripts, ETC.) to verify meeting these Minimum Qualifications.
- Must be able to pass a Department of Juvenile Justice Background screening/test.
- Must have and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
- Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within six months of employment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent; AND
- Five (5) years of Administrative Support experience, preferably at the executive level.
- Education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Must have and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license.
- Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within two months of employment.
- A “Class B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger “P” and School Bus “S” endorsements is preferred. Applicants hired without a CDL license or required endorsements must obtain, at their expense) a CDL with above endorsements within six months of hire as a condition of employment; failure to obtain the CDL with endorsements will result in termination of employment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Staff Supervision and Operational Execution
- Supervision and Operations: Execute current operations based on Commandants and Deputy Director’s guidance. Provide direct supervision to the FLYCA Operations Department staff in accordance with established guidelines. Staff Development: Coordinate biannual training sessions for Cadre (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, CPR, etc.). Reporting: Routinely collect, verify for correctness, and disseminate reports, nominations, and rosters (Bi-Weekly report, Cadet of the Month nominations, etc.) in accordance with established suspense. Staff Accountability: Ensures personnel evaluations are completed in accordance with current state and FLYCA policies. Readiness: Oversee the recruitment, training, and execution of the Academy Cadet Flag Teams and Honor Guard Team (Drill Team & Color Guard).
Cadet Discipline and Policy Oversight
- Disciplinary Authority: Lead disciplinary boards for Cadets and forward recommendations to the Commandant and Deputy Director for final determination. Discipline Execution: Oversee execution of the Cadet Discipline Platoon (ORS/DP). Policy Review: Act as the Commandant's quality control officer by reviewing all Operations Department procedures, Cadet Policies, and other publications prior to their submission. Personnel Actions: Forwards employee and Cadet’s dismissal and/or termination documentation to the Commandant of Cadets, Deputy Director, and Director for final determination.
Administrative Coordination, Scheduling and Readiness
- Schedule & Continuity: Assist Commandant with Cadre work schedule and the academy training schedule to accomplish academy missions. SERVE AS ACTING COMMANDANT of the Florida Youth Challenge Academy (FLYCA) in the Commandant's absence, assuming full responsibility and accountability of the Cadre Operations department including all Cadets and assigned Staff.
Morale, Welfare, and Miscellaneous Duties
- Esprit de Corps: Participate/ facilitate physical fitness training with the Cadets and Cadre, as required, to enhance spirit de corps, morale, and academy synergy. Other Duties: Performs all other duties as deemed necessary by the Commandant of Cadets, Deputy Director, or Program Director to ensure continuity of operations.
