FLORIDA YOUTH CHALLENGE ACADEMY

The Florida Youth Challenge Academy’s mission is to provide a highly disciplined and motivational environment, free from outside distractions, which fosters academics, leadership, development, personal growth, self-esteem, and physical fitness for qualifying high school dropouts. The Academy consists of an operational staff and cadre with in-depth military experience, certified instructors from the Clay County School District system, a registered nurse, counselors and recruitment and placement personnel.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. New employees of the Department of Military Affairs will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  2. New employees of the Department of Military Affairs are required to participate in a direct deposit/electronic transfer program. 
  3. The Department of Military Affairs is paid on a monthly basis.
  4. This position is a Cooperative Agreement position.
  5. As a CANDIDATE, you may be required to provide documentation (i.e., High School Diploma or Equivalency, College Transcripts, ETC.) to verify meeting these Minimum Qualifications.
  6. Must be able to pass a Department of Juvenile Justice Background screening/test.
  7. Must have and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
  8. Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within six months of employment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University with a major in Business Management, Business Administration, or a related field AND Two (2) years of full-time experience in Business Management, Business Administration, or a related field; OR
  • An Associate's Degree from an accredited College or University with major coursework in Business Management, Business Administration, or a related field AND Four (4) years of full-time experience in Business Management, Business Administration, or a related field; OR
  • A High School Diploma AND Six (6) years of full-time experience in Business Management, Business Administration, or a related field

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facility/Program Operations

  • Maintain high level of interaction with Director, Deputy Director, staff and customers
  • Assume all duties and responsibilities of the Director/Deputy Director in the absence
  • Oversight of organizational compliance
  • Support department heads to ensure realistic working conditions are being achieved
  • Supply feedback to Deputy Director and Director on issues that arise of concern
  • Assist the Deputy Director with operating rules and make necessary changes/updates when necessary
  • Ensure timely completion of program CORE classes within the established timeframes
  • Promote the program through Service to the Community Service network and connections
  • Ensure all Cadets receive all mandatory CORE classes and Service to the Community hours per COA
  • Coordinate with outside facilities for events and functions to serve the community to form partnerships
  • Assist the Deputy Director to implement and update program SOPs and policies per NGB
  • Responsible for the oversight of Staff Training Coordinator, Dining Facility Manager, Logistic Specialist, and Maintenance Departments
  • Work with Staff Training Coordinator to ensure Calendar is kept up to date and all daily information is accurate
  • Work with the Supply and Maintenance depts with concerns or issues of bldg. or vehicle repairs
  • Work with Dining facility to ensure we address any food or staff concerns
  • Monitor program activities in relation to established program goals within the established program parameters and determine variances from standards
  • Oversite of daily schedule and coordination with the Education dept pertaining to classes and mandatory educational testing
  • Ability to plan and coordinate events for the Cadets on and off grounds
  • Oversite of Family Day and assisting in the planning of all other major academy events
  • Meet in person and maintain positive communication with all new Service to Community POCs
  • Must be able to work all major events and make needed adjustments to their schedule

 

Education, Training, and Development

  • Coordinate and provide oversight of required training to program standards to all staff
  • Ensure all program staff and Cadre have received and are current on all Federal and State Required Trainings
  • Coordinate meetings to review program Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Ensure accurate delivery of required information within established program timelines to all department Heads
  • Maintain accountability of Operating Procedures in accordance with the Academy Cooperative Agreement requirements, state laws, and federal regulations
  • Maintaining and coordinating all information for regular required program auditing
  • Have strong leadership ability, presentation skills, and the ability to translate academy requirements into understandable terms for department managers
  • Ability to present CORE classes to the staff and Cadets

 

Reporting and Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain daily training schedules for CORE and educational classes
  • Attend meetings, conferences, and orientations that benefit the program
  • Attend high profile events when directed to by the Deputy Director and Director
  • Use word processing tools and other database software to produce reports
