CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. New employees of the Department of Military Affairs will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

  3. The Department of Military Affairs is paid on a monthly basis.
  4. This position is a Cooperative Agreement position.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A High School Diploma AND
  • Three (3) years of professional, full-time-equivalent experience in Administrative or Business Operations
  • Education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position serves as a dual-role team member within Camp Blanding’s Range Operations section, directly supporting the mission of safe, effective training through administrative and operational support. The selected candidate will serve as both an Administrative Assistant to the Range Operations Range Management Authority (OIC) and as a Current Operations Assistant within the Range Control Radio Room.

Administrative Assistant Duties:

  • Provides comprehensive administrative support to the Range Operations OIC, ensuring the efficient flow of information, scheduling, and daily coordination of operations.
  • Attends internal and external meetings across Camp Blanding as an official representative of the Range Operations Officer; captures comprehensive notes and action items, synthesizes key takeaways, and provides concise and timely briefs to leadership.
  • Drafts, edits, and distributes official correspondence, memoranda, schedules, reports, and briefings.
  • Tracks ongoing projects and priorities, managing timelines, due-outs, and coordination with other directorates and stakeholders.
  • Coordinates travel requests, training schedules, and logistics in support of Range Operations initiatives.
  • Maintains digital and physical filing systems, safeguarding the integrity and accessibility of sensitive or mission-critical documentation.

Current Operations / Radio Room Support Duties:

  • Assists with daily operations in the Range Control Radio Room, which serves as the nerve center for real-time training coordination across the Camp Blanding Joint Training Center (CBJTC).
  • Learns and applies CBJTC Range Operations Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and communication policies to support effective mission execution.
  • Operates communications equipment to monitor, coordinate, and track training events across all assigned ranges, firing points, and training areas, ensuring units adhere to safety requirements and established timelines.
  • Maintains and updates the Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS) Fire Desk, ensuring accurate, real-time tracking of training resource usage and live-fire activities.
  • Assists in the weekly emplacement of roadblocks and training area access control measures, ensuring compliance with deconfliction protocols, safety procedures, and maneuver damage prevention standards.
  • Coordinates directly with unit representatives, range safety personnel, and Range Operations leadership to troubleshoot scheduling conflicts, facilitate changes to training plans, and communicate safety-related instructions.

Other Duties:

  • Supports range inspections, emergency response coordination, or incident documentation when directed.
  • May assist in the preparation of weekly or monthly status reports, training summaries, or operational briefs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in direct support of the Range Operations mission.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Knowledge of Army Regulations and Florida National Guard Regulations.
  • Knowledge of military weapons.
  • Working knowledge of or ability to rapidly learn Camp Blanding Range Operations procedures and the structure of the Florida Army National Guard training mission.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); able to create polished meeting notes, briefings, and tracking tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with senior military leaders, civilian agencies, and training unit personnel.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and track tasks across a dynamic operational environment.
  • Ability to take detailed, structured notes during meetings and independently produce professional summaries, decision points, and follow-up actions.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate radio communication equipment, including adherence to proper radio etiquette and safety reporting procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer service mindset and a professional demeanor when dealing with both internal team members and external partners.
  • Capable of working under pressure and adapting to changes in mission requirements, including high-tempo training cycles or emergency scenarios.
  • Familiarity with RFMSS or willingness to learn and operate training resource management software.
  • Willingness to occasionally support physical tasks such as roadblock emplacement and site inspections, if required.
